Default Assistance to configure wi5 ISPs Ralink RT2880 APSoC

    hi....

i am using wi5 zylog for internet. they have fitted a router named rt2880 (google rt2880.pdf you can get full details about router) from that i have connected my desktop through ethernet cable. what i want is i also have a laptop i need to connect it through wireless mode. when i asked the wi5 technician he told its possible to make it but company doesn't allow to do them because user can share among his neighbor's with a single connection. he also told that this router is powerful and it will cover vast area. so he said no and asked me to buy a wireless modem to connect lap.

what i want is to use my lap and desktop with this same router. i have taken few screen shots please see it...

    please assist me ...

    Check in your laptop
    Network /show all connections.
Set up a wlan and see any wifi SSID appears. ( In secure unsecure mode )

This unit itself has wifi menu settings..
Your MAC address ( desktop lan card ) does it appear here now ?.
    Start RUN type cmd
    Ok
    New window
    type ipconfig /all
Your LANcard MAC number will appear.
Post screen shots of other menu items
    Under Wireless.

i searched for the ssid with lap i couldn't find... but when i change the mode to AP CLIENT then the lap shows rt2880 but internet doesn't work in both . so i changed to default WISP setting in that router just acts as client only it doesn't act as ap.

i will explain you .... totally 2 things involved
    * RJ45 cable from my dsktp lan port
    * poe box (it has a adapter that carries current and it is connected to that poe small box which allows me to connect the lan cable that comes from desktop and mentioned DATA IN at the opposite end DATA OUT from that lan cable goes to the router )

    desktop lan =----={poe box}=-----= router
    .............................||
    .............................||
. ................... power adapter (its like 1100 phone charger adapter)

now am outside ... if you need more info let me know....

Confirm TWO RJ45 cables (or a pair) are required.
    Confirm this set up.
    antenna unit : ===<<<rj45 cablePoE (1) <<<<====connection box YES
connection box <<<==== {48 V DC?} input from AC adapter YES
    .do .......................<<<<=== Rj45 cable(2) from computer/ or laptop YES

confirm the rj45 (2) does not have any DC ( input ) __YES
That is the response i needed.
that will confirm you use TWO rj45 cables.
so that RJ45 Cable No2 can be safely connected to an external WIFI router Internet port or LAN1 port.
successfully tried in a similar WIMAX ( Reliance) connection.

What is the OS used ? Windows7/ XP Home /XP pro
    in desktop and laptop.
    Example ;

what i want is to use my lap and desktop with this same router
A the same location where your desktop is used check with your laptop with a wifi card
    ( wireless ethernet card ) .

If you get the signals in laptop without any physical connection well and good. If not
    Option 1 :

You have to try an external wifi router such as Netgear WGR614 V9 etc.

If laptop/desktop have to be used at the same time
and laptop at a distant location,(mention distance involved also say at ground floor etc )

yes i used to check the signal sometimes i get that WI5_Ksap signal but very poor strength ... annd when i try to connect i couldn't by saying cannot be connected. (i think we need to configure some settings)

my desktop is in 2nd floor
and lap is in 1st floor

at same time i wont use both together. when i tried the router mode to AP CLIENT mode i can see some setings to enable router broadcasting stating RT2880 (default mode is WISP) you can see in screenshot's

DNS entries seems fixed by Zylog. confirm
    see this link
wimax connected to wifi router for better usage in the house/flat.

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/relian...-new-post.html
    para two:
A RJ45 two way splitter is available.
You could use One RJ45 for 1st floor ( say about 15 feet cable )
( rj45 may be connected always to system in 2nd floor , but kept OFF when laptop used in first floor )
or try a 4 way switch.
    feedback.

yes i can understand what you say.. you giving me option to split the wire and get connected to lap which is in 1st floor. either by direct lan port or through wireless by getting another wireless modem. Right ...

but what i dreamt was to connect the desktop as it is and my lap through the wireless network through the router which is in terrace.(without buying new wireless modem) i hope you get it.

the 4 operation mode in startup page of the router is

    Bridge:
All ethernet and wireless interfaces are bridged into a single bridge interface.

    Gateway:
The first ethernet port is treated as WAN port. The other ethernet ports and the wireless interface are bridged together and are treated as LAN ports.

WISP: at present internet is in this mode and in which desktop is connected
The wireless interface is treated as WAN port, and the ethernet ports are LAN ports.

    AP Client:
The wireless client interface is treated as WAN port, and the wireless ap interface and the ethernet ports are LAN ports.

what i was asking is is there any way to use the same router (in terrace) for accessing my lap also by changing within the above options.

to say clear i want to make the router to act as both receiver and broadcaster. (now it just receives from wi5 network and connects to dsktp i couldnt see any option to broadcast my ssid under WISP mode. so i tried AP CLIENT mode where i can able to broadcast my router name also able to see in lap but internet is not working)

    router details http://www.kosanco.com/Documents/Chipsets/RT2880.pdf

also thanks for your patience i may be bugging you

Most of these ISP's do not like users to have multiple systems.
    (internet Reliance wimax etc )
Either you have one desktop with all the antenna setup
or a direct WIFI connection from their tower.
May be they are using your location as a repeater station. (A.P)
You can try the different options listed by you.

Another problem you may have to log in for each system.
Both may not work at the same time.
    2.
Last year I was offered FREE Internet connection for all flat owners, if we permit an Antenna Setup on the terrace of our flat/s.
by Zylog WI5. offer was not accepted.

ya you are right every time i need to login and technicians also told that i cant use both at a time...

wow.. you live in chennai right... but wi5 is not up to the standard they borrow bandwidth from others and its speed is not constant (my experience). previously i used data one for last 5 years .. 3 months back i switched to this but their customer support is very good. whenever i call them they used to come within hours or maximum next day ..

then about this router which option do you think that will work

    bridge

gateway (whenever i try this option router turn to idle and i go to terrace and press reset)

    ap client

    wisp (present status)

shall i give all those details in screen shots of every option ?

    thanks

I doubt. Basically any modem/router is set for access in LAN mode. In wisp mode itself try wireless settings if page accessed.

In your laptop /WLAN wif icon.
    Show available wireless networks .
Do you find any unsecured wif name ?
( but will need log in )
WI5 appears unsecured in my laptop but I cannot connect. ( no ID/PW) you can use yours.

Yes. You may have to enter the MAC address of LAN card ! Not sure. ( since you already log in in LAN mode )
I assumed you have the WLAN ethernet card already configured.
In laptop NETWork will show both lan and wlan connections.
If you have a bsnl connection/telephone you can have a NETONE dialup connection also! ( Provided old 56K fax/voice modem is available)

    A year back mine KK
