Default Urgent - How to monitor Wifi traffic?

    Hi,

Please suggest me some program that I can use to monitor traffic on my Wifi. There is no such option in my router's DSL settings.

Is there a way to monitor that traffic in real-time while computers being identified with their MAC's.

In short, I need to catch people who are downloading all day and night choking all bandwidth. I just need to find the MAC who is consuming the maximum bandwidth.

    Thanks

No one can answer that without a description of your network, and model details of the router.

The answer is probably going to be that there is no way of sniffing traffic from a domestic-model router.

If it is compatable, you could reconfigure it to run DD-WRT (Google will take you to their site: posting links here seems to send posts into moderation black hole) which has way more capability --- although I have no idea if it does what you want.

If this is a commercial situation, then... wandering around glancing over people's shoulders can work wonders. More seriously, it is a management failure as much as an IT problem.

Its a Beetel 450BXI. MAC filtering is enabled and 8 users are authorized, but a couple of them download a lot. This is a boys hostel and I am taking care of the internet here. Because of a few of those 8, all suffer and are unable to open a page.

I need a way to find out which MAC is causing this, or anything close that can help.
I did try removing one MAC at a time to see if that reduces the load, but I'd like a more techie way to do that.

    Thanks
