Default Help needed choosing a good ISP

Hi have broken up with Hathway coz they use modems & i am not able to connect to xbox live or PSN Via hathway , now i am currently dating MTNL hehe.... , But it has a tendency to disconnect & kill my direct downloads from Rapidshare or hotfile , both are such b!tches

now i want a good ISP Service in Borivali Mumbai with these requirements >>>

1 ] 750-1.25 MB/s unlimited plans from the price range of 700-1300 Rs

2 ] No CAP Like if you download 20 GB , your speed will decrease to 256 kb/s rom 1 MB/s

3 ] Must & i repeat it must have a Router or a direct LAN Connection , i can't use modems with my consoles

4 ] Should not have any disconnection problems , rare ones are ok

so please suggest me a isp according to my needs thank you

    Cool

You will have to go to USA and get Verizion fios line there.
DUDE THE SPECIFICATIONS, YOUR NEEDS AND YOUR PRICE RANGE is scaring the living daylights out of me. Increase or decrease any of them.

Dude where do you live these are the same specs of my mtnl connection

it is a 1 mb/s plan with unlimited download , no cap or fup, comes with a router & yeah Rs-999/- w/o taxes included & i live in mumbai , so i know there will be other ISP Who give simmilar specs , hathway is useless as it does not give a router & uses outdated modem technology , which does not connect with my xbox live , so i will not change anything please give me a plan according to the needs i have ^_^

Default Need help selecting an ISP

Guys im in the US right now and I am planning for a visit to India in May. I wanted to setup wireless internet back home as of now we have the wired connection(BSNL). I wanted to check who provides DSL service in India or any ISP giving a decent speed when there are about 4 users.
Also suggest some wireless router I can get back from here which will help me setup wireless internet in India.

Please mention your location (in India) so that people from your locality can respond.

You can get a good WiFi modem plus router for Rs. 1,800. I am also using a modem from BSNL. They are generally good. Also if you buy a router from US, if there occurs some issue with the connection, BSNL employees will blame the 3 rd party modem and back off from giving support.

If you want an USB modem which you can use while on the move, you can choose 3G from an operator in your locality. You can find more info on the " Mobile Broadband " section of this forum.

You can buy an unlocked USB modem from US which support 3G and/or 2G SIM from Indian operators. If you want to buy one most of the users here use, then UMG1831 or K4505. You can get details here

    Mobile broadband

    Hope this helped.

Since you have Bsnl broadband check here for any change of
tariff plan, to increase the speed of the connection.
    BB Plan Selector.
Give details of the modem/router model/make/number.
Whether on rental basis or outright purchase from Bsnl ,or any other
    brand .

    Para two :
Any wifi router ( from U.S) can work in India .
Doubtful you will get any price advantage.
compare prices in ebay U.S and India.
    example Netgear WGR614 v9.

In India about Rs 1500/= say $30.
    http://cgi.ebay.in/Netgear-Wireless-...item3365f33836
In US: approx $40 plus shipping approx $7/=
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Netgear-WGR614NA...item3a5fc98dfa
Used items /auction items/other brands may be cheaper.

Anyway most routers sold in U.S/INDIA are "Made in China" !

    2.
Depending on the height and radius of wifi activity in your home,
better to get latest wifi routers with dual antenne or detachable antenna to add external antennas. ( dish type ) if the range is beyond a radius of say 40 to 50 feet approx.

Well you can look at Reliance broadband 1 mbps day 2 mbps night for around 1500 Rs but then after reading all the horror stories in the section of Reliance broadband from biling issue to disconnects even I was turned off otherwise I was all set to get it.
So went ahead with MTNL which is by far better and doesnt have the FUP crap as others have.
