If your laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium or above, try " Connectify " to make it a WiFi hotspot. You can then connect iPad and iPhone to your WiFi.

Assume you are using a WAN MINIport DIALER and entering your userid PW in the laptop to connect.
If so, change it to PPPoA/PPPoE mode ( deselect "bridged")
in WAn page. Next enter your UserID/PW.
In LAN menu page usually enable DHCP. Give a range say 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.10.
As soon as Modem+dlink+ laptop switched on get connected to Internet
    automatically.
    confirm. Feedback.

Thanks. I tried it but then i think i clicked somewhere and i could not connect at all. I then went and did a reset and now i can connect my laptop on dial up.

Still i am unable to connect I-pad 2.

I was just thinking, does any one know if i can purchase a new modem which can be used on both lap top and ipad? right now i have a modem and a router..

if yes , can you tell me where to get it in pune? what price?

Presume you are now connecting the LAPtop in LAN mode Only using the MT AX880 modem.
    If so
Please see Post No 3 again.

    2. With no cable connected to Laptop do you see any other nearby
WIFI stations secured or unsecured ?

( this is to confirm that your Wireless LAN is set up properly in the laptop )

    3.
Mention the OS used : Windows 7/Vista/XPSP3.
(Application "connectify" option with windows 7 ONLY. No need for WIFI router )
    4.
Confirm at any time you could use Linksys wifi router ( mention model/make /number ) and work in wifi mode.
( to check you had not made any changes in the settings )

    5. This is not rocket science, and your problem is being repeated and solved almost daily in this forum. If you want to spend money, on a new model , even then you have to make some entries using the Wizard.
(Modem+wifirouter Price range Rs 2000/= to Rs 5000/= details later)

    Congrats.
A simple slip by you in not mentioning the Linksy's Model number .
    linksys wireless modem
    interpreted as wireless router !!!
Do mention the model number for records.
