Thread: Wireless router or Wi Fi modem ?

I already have an Airtel 220BX ADSL2 + Modem ! (wired to my desktop) But,i have also just bought a laptop and iam thinking of buying a Wi Fi connection ! Airtel Wi Fi modem costs 1500 ! My friend uses a router with his wired modem and claims it to be cheaper and a better choice than me going for a new Wi Fi modem ! Am confused,what should i do now? Will i get the same speeds on both? I know the wi fi modem too comes with an inbuilt router,but is it good enough,i mean is it fast ?

My main concern is speed !

If you just recommend me to buy a router,please suggest one which is compatible with my modem

If it is a 3 -in One type
ADSL modem +4lan Port + wifi router, you can buy it.
Model likely to Be Binatone/ Beetel450BXI/ or Beetel 450TCI.
A separate wifi router also will cost about Rs 1500/= to be used with 220 BXI.
example Netgear wgr614V9 ( only wifi router with 4 lan ports )

if you want extended range ( radius of wifi operation exceeds say 50 or 60 feet ) buy a model with multiple antennae.

Go for WiFi Moderm if you need your computer to connect to Internet only. Therefore, it will only 1 device needed for the internet connection.
