    Default Windows xp laptop with tata photon + - wifi set up

    Hi,

    I have a windows xp sp3 laptop and tata photon+ usb modem. I would like to set up my laptop as a wifi hotspot so I can connect my Acer Iconia tab (which only has wifi option to connect to the internet).

    I have read articles about setting up the laptop as a wifi router if connected to a LAN cable internet connection. Please advise if I can do the same with photon+.

    Thanks in advance

    AcerIconia ( mention model number )seems to have this.
    Mention model. name of laptop.

    Any blue tooth facility in laptop?

    Para two:
    setting up the laptop as a wifi router
    Two conditions;
    (a)
    Laptop should have a built in wlan card or
    used /inserted externally.

    (b)
    Operating system Windows 7.
    Application "connectify" will turn your laptop to a AP
    ( Access point) within limited range.
    (The ssid name will be "connectify")

    Connectify will be a good option for you.

    @essbebe: Acer Iconia tab A500 (Honeycomb 3.0). Laptop is wipro make with 2 MB RAM, core 2 duo. My laptop does not have bluetooth but it has a built-in realtek WLAN - RTL8178B wireless router.

    @essbebe/meetdilip -

    The examples or recommended steps that I've read talks about the laptop having a LAN connection. But since TATA Photon+ is already a wireless modem, I wanted to know if the same procecdure applies to it.

    Would be really interesting if anyone has done this.

    PS: Don't want to run Windows 7 on my laptop. The laptop is already slow even with XP. Hence connectify is out of scope.

    You can buy a USB WiFi router in that case. Simply Google the term and you will get a lot of options. Connectify is free, that is why I suggested it. USB WiFi routers cost around Rs. 2,500. Check and update.

    Tata Photon is a wireless modem, but it can only receive wireless signals. It cannot transmit wireless signals which is what we need.
