Thread: Share broadband through wifi for Android phone

Hi,
I have a mtnl unlimited broadband connection using a wired router DLink GLB-502T owned by me.The router was NOT taken from mtnl on rental basis. I have a wireless usb dongle Airlink101 product name AWLL3026.The manual says that it can be used as an access point.ried the procedures but it does not work.It works sometimes when I bridge the lan with wireles lan.How do I configure it to share the broadband connection over wireless to access internet on my spice mi-270 android phone.Android does not support AD-HOC connection.I have tried Virtual Access Point but I am unable to do so.I am running WINXP pro 32 bit.The phone is not rooted and I do not intend to do so.
Please Guide.

(1)You need, an external stand alone wifi router like Netgear wgr614V9 etc.



(2)Check any built in Wireless network card in your laptop.

(3)Can you surf the internet and open web pages
using Airlink101 Awll3026 ?
Remove the LAN Rj45 cable from laptop.

(4) What is the SSID name, which appears in your laptop?

It works sometimes when I bridge the lan with wireles lan.

I kwow using a standalone wifi router is the ultimate solution.I am connecting the Airlink101 Awll3026 on a desktop pc.When I do manage to get the wifi configured by bridge as access point I can surf the internet on my android pone and obviously on the desktop pc also.The wifi adaptor is configured for manual ip and lan of the pc for auto
Desktop pc USB wifi adaptor
IP address 192.168.1.3 192.168.1.5
subnet mask 255.255.255.0 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1
using the same configuration for brigde sometimes the SSID "WLAN_AP" is detected on the phone and some times not.To confirm if it is the fault of the phone I have tried with a laptop having wifi at the same time and it is not detected there also

I am running WINXP pro 32 bit

Please confirm OS is Windows7 Pro or WinXP SP3.
Any built in wireless lan adapter in the motherboard ?

The OS is Windows XP Professional 32 bit version with Service pack 3 (SP3) [WINXP Pro 32 bit) installed not Windows7.

There are no wireless lan adapter in the motherboard.

did you see chapter 4.1 in the manual ?

As already mentioned I have tried the procedures as mentioned in the mannual. I did change the mode to Access Point.Under more settings >Bridge adapter selected VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter(onboard LAN).On my phone I get a ssid as WLAN_AP and obtaining IP address from WLAN_AP <> Diconnected Measage.I even cannot connect with a lapton using its built in wifi card to the airlink

There is no internet connection .
With a LAN ethernet card you get connected to Internet. ( ADSL /L/L)
Then this unit will work as an AP point for other wifi enable devices in proximity!!!

In Windows 7 OS when connected to Internet via lan mode, the laptop
having inbuilt WLAN card or external wifi card will work as an AP with an application called "connectify"

No need for USB modem or standalone wifi router. or wifi Internet connection.

Laptop Adapters are:
Atheros AR5B95 Wireless Network Adapter
To receive/send wifi signals usually when wifi router is used.

Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller for ADSL LAN connection.

Above combination with "Connectify" in Windows 7 OS system
for an adsl broadband connection,
will work as AP for other systems in close proximity.
Your phone may pick up the SSID>

LAN ethernet card will not radiate wifi signals.Its under the option in the airlink gui under settings where under bridge Adapter I select the LAN ethernet card.I am bridging the airlink with the Atheros onboard Lan card

(Bridge Adapter: If you have another Ethernet card installed in your computer, you can select the other Ethernet card as the bridge adapter. This will allow any wireless client that is connected to the access point to be bridged to the wired network that the other Ethernet card is connected to.)
