Default What's The Mantra To Increase Internet Speed??

    Hi Guy's,

I'm using MTNL Broadband from last 15-16 months, earlier, I's on 512 KBPS plan.. But because of low speeds I'd to switched to 1 MBPS plan.. But still I'm facing similar problems.. In 1 MBPS plan I'm getting maximum downloading speed upto 130 KBPS.. It sucks me alot.. Do you've any idea what can I do to increase my internet speed except to switched to another highend plan..??

I'm using Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium on my system and MTNL has provided Sterlite SAM300 router to me...

    Regards
    Deepak

Maximum speed of your plan is 128 KBps. If you are getting 130 KBps, there is no fault in any of the settings. It seems your line conditions are excellent ( a wonder with MTNL). No matter what you do, you won't get anything more than the promised speed of your plan. Those speed boosters, download managers all those who claim so either do some tweaks to get you some good speeds or fake the speed indicator.

Only work out is to hack the server which is a crime by law. It is easy to get caught and may end up paying huge fine or a jail term.

Why its like that..?? You know every broadband provider in India offer only the 10% of their commitments..Why...???

TRAI should setup some guidelines on this issue...
A couple of months back one of my friend went to Germany we used to chat together via g-talk and all, he told me that he's a 4MBPS broadband connection and he's getting equal, 4MBPS, speed while downloading movies on his laptop..

Why can't this happened in India.. Why broadband providers are not meeting with their commitments..?? If not they can provide 1MBPS speed in 1MBPS plan than they should sell it as 128KBPS plan, why they're making fool of people..??

    @ deepaktheindian

    1 Byte = 8 bits

    1 KB = 8 Kb

    256 Kbps = 32 KBps

    1 Mbps = 1024 Kbps = (1024/8) = 128 KBps.

If you are in 1 Mbps and getting 130 KBps, you are getting promised speed. It is a trick used by ISPs to confuse customers. It is like quoting price as Rs. 99.99. But there is nothing illegal in it. It is a worldwide standard and ISPs across the world quote their speed in Kbps or Mbps (and lately in Gbps).

    Hope it is clear now.

It seems you are still having trouble with the nomenclature. Normally it is 4 Mbps what we get in India. 4 MBps is (4*8) = 32 Mbps.

Well, the logic you mentioned in your earlier post is cleared to me..But the reality is in western countries consumers do not take seconds to drag you to the court if you as service provider do not complete your commitments... A 4 MBPS plan means you'll get downloading speed of 4 MBPS.. they do not enter into 1 Byte = 8 Bit matrix.. Many companies offer free broadband facilities to their customers if they only buy a landline connection...

Ya, me too read that post

We live in a country where roads become potholes in a few months' time. In stores, they sell Pepsi and Coke charging Rs. 2 extra than MRP. So we cannot expect anything different in broadband.

    Agree....

"We need tens of billions dollars in broadband networking..." - Manmohan Singh..

India May Need ?Tens of Billions? in Broadband Network Spending - Bloomberg

How can we imagine that one day every house in the country will be connected through a broadband connection... when the telecommunication minister of the country is in Tihar Jail & facing a court trial in a multibillion dollars scam...??

Actually people concerned about internet and broadband speed is a bare minimum. Mainly policy making bodies in government and those rich people who can pay around Rs. 1,000 for broadband. Broadband infrastructure can revolutionize India just like mobiles did in just 5 years' time. But not many are bothered or have knowledge about the same. What does a normal man earning Rs. 5,000 per month (which is still a decent salary in India) care about 1 Mbps unlimited ? There are many pressing issues for common man and normally his voice is heard by the authorities.
