Any reason you need USB connection than ethernet connection. AR800V has 4 LAN ports (you can plug in 4 computes through these ports) and supports WiFi too. You can simply use an ethernet cable or PCI Wireless card (costs less than Rs. 500) for your desktop to connect to internet. USB connection is not recommended for many reasons (if avoidable).
Thanks meetDilip.
Now why is it not recommended.
The one and only one reason is to get the power from laptop when there is a power cut.
Laptop can stay on for 2+ hours and by that time there is every chance for the power to come back.
Please advice whether I should go for an additional prepaid USB card when the power goes rather than using the cable to draw power from laptop.
Thanks

Teracom Type-II USB DRIVER INSTALLATIONNow why is it not recommended.
download drivers from same site.
Which OS you use ?
You cannot connect both USB cable and LAN cable at the same time.
Speed of data transfer slow 11Mbps compared to 100Mbps LAN
and 54 Mbps for old wifi routers.
Probably heavy strain on laptop power supply and or battery back up in laptop.
.
( doubt whether In AR800 v3 power is drawn from the laptop
For USB mode : only data signal may be connected.. Not tested. )

You cannot use laptop's battery to power your modem through USB port. You should find some way to give supply to power adapter while there is power cut. You can either get a USB internet service to use in such cases (you can even use 2G with your phone connected through USB cable) or use UPS to back up the modem. Any normal UPS which costs Rs. 2,000 can give back up of around 1 hours. But you should bypass the restriction in board which will shut down the UPS when negligible load is connected. You can use the help of local electronics guy for that.
