Question nokia siemens c2110 modem as router

I want to share files between two computers using the c2110 modem provided by BSNL. One computer is connected via Ethernet(laptop) and the other(P4 desktop) via USB to the modem. Both the computers connect to the Internet simultaneously. I was just wondering if file sharing can be done between the two computers using the modem because the desktop doesn't have Ethernet port.

Mention OS used in both systems. If both same OS, it is possible I think. Different may also work a few more steps required. You can find a lot of guides saying sharing files between

    1. 2 XP systems,

    2. 2 Windows 7 systems,

    3. between XP and Windows 7 system etc.

That can be easily resolved. Buy a switch and connect the ethernet cable from modem to the switch. Use ports of switch and connect both systems using ethernet. I think switch won't be much costly. You need to be in PPPoE mode to do this (with all probability, you already are).

Data transfer rate through USB will be very less compared to ethernet. Ethernet, but I think it should work. Try this guide

Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP - How-To Geek

Try and see if it works. If not, you will have to get a switch.

Sharing folders between two Windows 7 machines with the new HomeGroup feature is an easy process, but the HomeGroup feature is not compatible with Vista or XP.

I've done trying all, the main problem is that the two computers are invisible to each other(no response using ping) eventhough both are connected to internet simultaneously.

p.s DHCP is enabled in router/modem

I just figured out the solution to the problem. It was just the firewall blocking the connection. After forwarding a port, everything was okay.
