    Default Unsecured wireless network

    i invite the geeks here!!!

my wifi connection shows as unsecured (although i have added mac filtering into my modem) is it really unsecured even after mac filtering, i understand unsecured network is like an house with open doors, my questions are as follows.

    1) how to make it more secured
    2) how to/ways to connect a unsecured network (say i have mac filtered and it is unsecured without any passkey or WAP/WEP disabled)

MAC Address security is not good enough.

MAC Address security will work with novice users. MAC address of a machine can be spoofed. There are many utilties available to do that. But it will be really tough to guess the correct MAC id. Hence it can work where people around you are not too much of geeks.

A smart user will be able to crack the admin password of your wireless network and then gain access. You must fall in this category.

But then people who keep unsecured networks are also those who do not change router passwords.

MAC filtering is an added layer of protection which you can add to encryption. Even one will work, but an expert may be able to bypass. You can even manage with MAC filtering but make sure that your IP address doesn't lie around and your modem password is changed from default password.
