Hi Everyone,

Okay so I bought a new Dlink DSL-2730U with N- capabilities of wireless more info here dlink.co.in/products/?pid=451 D-Link Wireless N 150 ADSL2+ 4-Port Router

I used to have an Beetel modem, which had only b/g type of wireless capability .

Now my main problem is, after setting all the configurations properly , my router doesn't give me a good enough range. Trust me when I had the crappy beetel router from AirTel I used to get a full bar/range signal on my phone and my laptop while just half a metre or even just under the router and even range outside the room with g-capability at channel 11.

But Now with this Dlink router, I hardly get even two bars, and the range shows up as just Fair or Poor while I am in the same room as the router and doors closed, when I come near the router it goes to " Good" but it never goes to the highest range for both my phone and laptop.

My phone and laptop are both N capable, and the router settings are :-

N (Auto)
Channel: 6 ( I even tried 11)
Frequency:20 Mhz (And even tried 40 Upper and 40 Lower bands , Lower was giving slightly better results)


Please don't say anything about obstructions in my room, that's what Dlink customer care told me, but I have closed all doors and windows and standing next to my router but still no range.

Is the router defective?

Give details of crappy beetel router used earlier.

Dlink DSL-2730U similar to Beetel 450BXI!
Both have WDS ( wireless distribution system option )
You can link them in Repeater mode without any wires !!!
Check the power is 100% in wifi page of either wifi router.

Mention the speed of your tariff plan .
Details of your WLAN card. OS used.

Router used before was the 450TC1 , which was destroyed by a lightning strike and airtel refused to replace it because they don't deal with Beetel anymore.

The speed of my Internet is 1 Mbps , Airtel connection. I get full 1 Mbps when on wire, but on wireless no range at all.

Transmitting power is high and was checked by a D-Link by a program which allowed him to use my computer virtually, (like teamviewer) but he couldn't log in the login page at that time, well thats another issue, sometimes my router login page won't show up even though ping 192.168.1.1 replies positively with no lag.

I resort to have to restart the router everytime this happens.

I am using Windows 7 with Dell 1397 WLAN Card and also using another laptop with wireless capability and running Windows 7 but not sure what wireless card this as it doesn't show. Both are supporting n-type though and mobile device is Google Nexus One, Android 2.3.6 with n wireless capability.

Sorry to hear beetel450TCI has been damaged.
I am using a similar unit with No Rj11 input, as a switch and wifi router.!!
Connect a RJ45 from dlink lan 1 to Lan 1 of 450TCI and check
whether wifi led lights up!! ONLY Internet LED will not light.
and SSID appears in laptop. you will not get any snr attn data.

Since my BSNL BB is down for past one week, i am unable to give you screenshot of Interface Internet page. will update later, if you confirm
if there is still life in 450TCI. ( see my sig link also)

QuickFix:
1.Select 801 G mode both in router and wlan card. ( or Auto select)

You can use an application called 'Connectify" to make your 1st laptop
( with ethernet connection and wlan card ) an AP ) Access Point for Laptop 2. ( limited range . Use this for testing/faul finding by passing the wifi part of router. )

I connected the Dlink to my beetel and it works as a repeater now, and I am getting a better Wifi signal off my beetel router I also downloaded this app called "Wifi Analyzer" for Android on my phone and it shows that my Dlink router gives only -80 dBm when I am right next to the router, while my Airtel router gives -40 dBm while next to it.


So its definitely something to do with the D-Link router... I guess also I have set it to only N wireless and it still gives the same attenuation signal.

Argh its very frustrating because its a brand new device and it has so many problems

I use connectify when I travel and it gives a better range from PC to PC than this D-Link Router!

Any other suggestions?

You have not tried the G mode it appears. Old Beetel may not have N mode.
You can post screen shots as atttachments of the wifi settings of Dlink dsl 2730u.

I have tried the G mode and get the same results by why on earth would I use G, when I brought a new router with the intention of getting better results using the N-type of wireless and more range??

I spoke to D-Link earlier and he couldn't resolve my problem and now I spoke again he spent 45 minutes doing the same thing I have been doing for the past 1 week . Its very frustrating!

And then he made it to G mode, and moved to channel 12 and mumbled something and said if I have further issues , to take it to a service center and check if the antenna is damaged.

My Beetel router is giving a much better range, placing at the same room, I just tried it out.

How Can I get no range while in the same room?

The version (FW i posted ) and what you have posted appear different.
You could have pointed this in previous posts.

Okay well I don't think you really got how my connections are setup so here I will go into more detail.

Firstly I have an AirTel connection and they gave me a beetel router 450TCI , which was burned during a thunderstorm, which resulted me into buying a new router


Now here is the deal, The New router is the Dlink DSL-2730U which has N150 capabilities and is NOW connected to the ADSL line ONLY.

Now since you gave me the idea to connect my Beetel router to my Dlink router I have done so, and the range of the Beetel router (g capability- channel 11) has more power than my NEW Dlink router.

My worry is that , my new router is not giving good enough range as my Beetel router even though its more advanced in technology, has a longer antenna and better software and brand.


I can post more screenshots of the configuration of the router if you wish.

I have played around with the settings numerous times, and changed from N to B to G , and even the Dlink customer care attained remote access and did the same and concluded all settings are fine.

Lan2 to laptop ethernet port (Mangement 2)
WIFI to laptop SSID esssbebeairtel 54 Mbps data transfer
Rj45 to OOMA VOIP.

STANDBY
Also have standby Wi5 rj45 (like tikona ) connected to Netgearwgr614v6 wifi router ssid KK ( 54 Mbps data transfer)
along rj45 15 feet to ground floor to SMC Barracuda WIFI router SSID SMC ( 11 Mbps data transfer)
My laptop distance ground floor approx 30 feet .

I do get two SSID's , and Airtel is "Excellent" while Dlink "Poor/Fair" , and while 8 feet away, Airtel is "Poor" and Dlink doesn't show up at all.

Did you find WDS (WDM)option in dlnk DSU2730U?

Antenna problem ??? Test freq Channel 11 G mode.
Any wifi router :range less than 30 feet wifi ~~~radius at same plane /room.should work. satisfactorily.

Now try the Dlink parallel to the ground and rotate the unit.
Antenna vertical propogation figure 0
Parallel to ground Figure of 8 max in say N/S or E/W directions.
rotate the unit and see bars in /laptop/cellphone .

11G won't work either, range remains constant whatever different mode I used.

And yes any router should work within 30 feet, but this doesn't , and I am facing frequent disconnections at N mode.

Here is quick screenie of the current setup of the Dlink router I am about 4 meters away from the router now and I pick up only the Airtel SSID (Beetel router) while the Dlink at the same channel and both broadcasting from the same room.

Test the dlink wifi router in another location. Your ISP land line suspect. Compare.

Okay I just found out that , When viewing from my laptop and finding out what channel my routers were broadcasting I noted the following:-

Even after setting Dlink router to broadcast at Channel 11 , it still refuses and broadcasts at Channel 1 any idea why?

Hi guys, I recently bought a Linksys DSL-2730U Wireless ADSL2+ Router and am sick and tired of trying to set it up with my Reliance Broadband connection. I want it to work over LAN with my PC as well as over wifi with mobile phones/laptops. Whichever device i use, it should show up the login page on that device, if i'm not already logged in.

After hour and hours of head-beating i got it to work in one way -

1. now i get assigned 2 different IP addresses from reliance - one for my PC and one for my mobile. So if i login on PC it still means i'm logged out on mobile.

2. i can only connect one wireless device at a time. if i want to connect another i have to restart the router.

3. I am unable to access router pages (bridge mode??)

I'm soooo tired. Normally i have fairly good knowledge of these things but now i'm totally dumbfounded
