If we use PPOE mode, then the username/password is stored inside the adsl-modem, and its autodials & establish the connection, irrespective of whether PC is ON or off.
1. I assume in this mode the user has no control over the connection, & hence switching off connection at 8:00AM (for taking benefit of unlimited download) is NOT possible.
Am I right in this assumption?
I am getting confused, since in these forums I am seeing scripts (vbs & autohotkey) which attempts to disconnect connection @ 8:00AM, in ppoe mode.
I have been using till now, modem in ppoe mode itself, but keep un-filled the username/password inside the modem. So I can use the ppoe-dialup from my PC to establish connection. So I have more control over the connect/disconnct process. I have being using taskscheduler, (rasdial batch script) to connect at 2:00AM and disconnect @ 8:00AM, successfully for past 1-2 years.
I have beeing using ppoe-mode this way instead of bridge, since my understanding is that you have a more secure PC connection in this ppoe mode (with firewall) , unlike in bridge mode. So you are more protected against hacks/spams etc, compared to bridge mode.
I want to confirm from experst here, my understanding is correct. Or are there flaws in it?
Now my problem with this approach is that I cannot simultaneously connect more than 1 PC to internet, even though I can connect 4 pcs to my WA3002G4 modem.
Only one PC at a time I can dial to internet.
I understand from this forum that, by using the same PPOE mode & entering username/password, into the modem itslef, I need not dial from my PC, but modem autodials for you. In this way, mutiple PCs can connect to internet. But I am loosing the individual control over connection.
2. Pls tell me if there is a reliable way to switch off connection @ 8:00AM, in this mode.
3. Pls also tell me the inyternal modem firewall (& NAT) is ON at this time. (Not the Windows-XP OS firewall).
Thanks & regards
