I dunno if this is the right place to ask, but..

rather than just rebooting my modem, is there an application/code/mod that I can use to switch on my PC at 2 AM?
I'm trying to save electricity here!

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, or if its a dumb question...forgive a humble noob...

Nice Advice, but I assume all the persons here already follow these things.

It would be Okey if we would have source code of the utility so that we can check whether it is clean or not.
did u know, building a s/w like this need at least 3-6 years of Computer Science Education plus about 3-4 weeks of hard work on this kind of Project.
and u need all the efforts for free???, such that u could make some changes in it & sell the s/w?(very smart).
if u really wan't the output(source code) of authors hard work, then u may propose him that u r ready to pay him for his work & u need the source code in return!

This type of *NICE* utility could get your internet banking passwords, credit card details, email address passwords etc. Be careful!!!
Yes, there are so many *NICE* utilities discussed here in this forum, so be Carefull!!! with all of them.

(by the way, i don't feel "NETHACK" trustworthy)
What u feel about me is ur own Openion, No one can change it,
if u feel @just4kix is a murderer - No one can change that too...

Also who know if Imran would be a pakistani elite hacker spreding his worm/spyware to send email remotely about some bomb blast?
    Right NETHACK?
before putting an alligation of this kind to anyone, u should first collect at least one evidence(report of firewall) in support of ur argument.

    Right vishalgiri?

When the Modem rebooted successfully thru Mytelnet.exe, u will get a similar data as shown in post no 29 of this thread:http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...html#post35464 (Ultimate Night Usage Manager.)

u just have to change that "test.txt" files data like:
    192.168.1.1 23
    WAIT "*"
    SEND "admin\m"
    WAIT "*"
    SEND "admin\m"
    WAIT ""
    SEND "help\m"
    WAIT "\m"
    SEND "reboot\m"
    WAIT "reboot\m"
    SEND ""

by truncating all the WAIT arguments(data within "" quotes in front of WAIT) to say 10 characters only
    Example
    WAIT "\m> help\m\m?\mhelp\mlogout\mreboot\madsl\matm\mbrctl\ mcat\mdf\m"
    is Equal to
    WAIT "\m> help\m"
(leave first few characters from the left and delete restall within the "")

Having corrected ur Test.txt file, u have to replace Reboot.txt with this Test.txt.

Once ur Reboot.txt file is updated, all u have to do is, start the main s/w then
try to reboot ur modem after 2 minutes
see : http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...html#post39088 (Ultimate Night Usage Manager.)
(don't forgot to check "Use Modem Reboot Service" before clicking on OK)

after two minutes see the modem lights, and the log generated by this s/w.

if the s/w has rebooted ur modem this time, then u just have to add/remove "times to reboot", under Modem Tab. and leave the s/w ON on those ""times to reboot".

Ok so how many here have tried and tested this software, how was it? I haven't downloaded it yet. Would like to know who had done it first before I do so

Are the time mentioned pre-configured? or you configure as per your own preference?

The Software “Imran’s Broadband Helper Utility” is intended to be used for PPPoE (Always ON) connections only, for managing the “free usage time” efficiently.

Under the Time Tab you have to configure your Start and End of “Free Usage Time”
The s/w need to know this for its NIC and Connectivity services.

You connect your PC to ADSL Modem via your Network Interface Card (NIC), in simple terms NIC means your LAN/Ethernet card.

If you click on “Disable NIC Now” then the s/w will disable all LAN connections available in your “Network Connections” folder. (Try to click this and see under “Network Connections” folder)

Similarly if you click on “Enable NIC Now” then the s/w will enable all LAN connections available in your “Network Connections” folder. (Try to click this and see under “Network Connections” folder)

When you disable the connection between your PC and Router, there will be No possibility for any s/w (in your system) to upload or download anything from the connection, this does not means the router is shut down or not capable of transferring data To/From Internet, particularly if you have a wi-fi enabled router then other wi-fi devices can connect to your router and use the Internet.

The s/w can schedule this Disabling/Enabling of NIC at specified Times (You need to “check” Use NIC Enable/Disable service).
    Or
you can use “Auto Enable”/”Auto Disable” feature also, depending upon the “Free Time Period” you specified under Time Tab the s/w can “Auto Enable” and ”Auto Disable” the NIC. (You need to “check” “Auto Enable”/”Auto Disable” options)

If you want the s/w should reboot your router at some specified times automatically, then you need at least three things properly configured.

    a) list of “Times to reboot”
    b) Use Modem Reboot Service – checked.
    c) A working telnet script (as seen above in blue color).

Every brand of router needs a different script, if the default script (as shown above) does not work for you then you need to generate a correct script for your router.

For generating the correct script for your router you can click on Configure button or run Mytelnet.exe available in the application folder.

For a detailed guide see one of my earlier post.

The script you are viewing here is actually the contents of file “Reboot.txt” available in the application folder, you can make the changes into it through notepad also, but the contents must be correct for correct results.

After generating the correct script and saving it as “reboot.txt” file in the application folder, you should first test whether the script is working or not.

For testing – just schedule a reboot after two minutes from current time then click “OK” to save this change and watch the modem lights for the next two minutes (did it rebooted?).

Then see the log of the s/w also, if the s/w fails to reboot the modem then often it give an indication which help us to locate the incorrect line in the script.

According to the author of the s/w:
“Your service provider can implement a program on server side which can reveal that whether you are opening some web pages regularly or not, and if not they often throttle your bandwidth”
For the solution of this problem he has implemented this connectivity service.

If you “check” Use connectivity Service at free usage time and add some web pages urls in the list, then the s/w will try to open all urls one by one after XX second’s interval (during free usage period only), by this way the server thinks that there is some person sitting on your PC so it does not throttle your bandwidth.

Also, if the program discovers that since last 4 minutes it is unable to open any page then it automatically reboots the modem to get a fresh connection.

Note: “Free Usage Time” is calculated according to what you have specified under Time Tab

This MISC Tab may not need any clarifications…
However one thing to be noted is that “Shutdown the PC at HH:MM” feature sometime does not work so the author has implemented “Shutdown the PC During HH:MM-HH:MM” feature.

u need a working script saved in reboot.txt file in application folder to be able to reboot the modem thru this s/w.
can u post ur current reboot.txt contents, also post the s/w log where it says "invalid response unable to reboot modem".

i followed the instructions u provided in mytelnet and the modem rebooted successfully but i cannot configure this in the software.so please help...
whenever u successfully reboot the modem using mytelnet.exe u will get some data in the textbox of mytelnet.exe
and when u click on save button in mytelnet.exe it will save that data in the application folder, with a name as written in a textbox left to save button.
u just have to open that file, and convert that data to a working script, then write that script in reboot.txt file.

u can see : http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...html#post35554 (Ultimate Night Usage Manager.)
for how to make a working script from mytelnet.exe's raw data.

if u r unable to deduce a script from that data, then u can post the contents of that data file here.
i will try to deduce the script from that data file which will work for u.

    Default with 2640T

i am using a Dlink 2640T wifi modem on vista. is this software applicable to this setup.
as when i turn on the computer, it automatically gets connected on wifi.
isnt there any software which can turn on my laptop at 2:05 AM and power it off at 7:55 AM.
    that would solve my problem

    Dear @jent1eman,
u r getting this error because ur Router's "help" command is a menu driven system.
for example when u give the help command during the telnet session u get responce like this:

    01. Option1
    02. Option2
    03. Option3
    ::
    ::
    14. Exit
Enter your choice : _(Waiting cursor)

Here whatever u type will go to the "Help Program" (Not to the Router).
So if u type "14 + ENTER" then the "Help Program" quits, and now ur next command can go to the Router.
if u type "Reboot + ENTER" then the "Help Program" thinks "Invalid Responce" and redisplays its menu. (or it might think "Responce not in the list" so quit).

So moral of the story is to send the "Reboot" command to the Router and not to the "Help Program".
u can do this in two ways:
    1) don't send the "help" command at all to the router.
(i.e send Username, Password, Reboot and Exit commands only)
    or
    2) after sending the "help" command, send the appropriate responce to quit "Help Program" i.e "14 + ENTER" then proceed further.
(i.e send Username, Password, help, 14, Reboot and Exit commands)

Hope u understand what i mean to say.

hey u need to convert this raw data to a small nice looking working script, that i have already described in the detailed step by step guide earlier.

however u can try this :
    192.168.1.1 23
    WAIT "*"
    SEND "admin\m"
    WAIT "*"
    SEND "admin\m"
    WAIT ""
    SEND "reboot\m"
    WAIT "\m"
    SEND "exit\m"
    WAIT "*"
    SEND ""

just save the above contents in the reboot.txt file, then try to reboot ur modem thru s/w after two minutes.
