Why some Antivirus report "BroadBand.exe" as Virus (when u download the older version of the s/w from RS).

To understand this, first of all try this :-

1. Make a copy of Notepad.exe to a Temp folder.
2. Then compress it (use command C:\temp>upx.exe Notepad.exe)
3. Make a copy of Explorer.exe to the same Temp folder, compress this too.
4. Now use this command : C:\temp>COPY /B "notepad.exe" + "explorer.exe" "myNotepad.exe"

Now u know that neither Notepad.exe is a Virus nor Explorer.exe, so the file myNotepad.exe should also NOT to be reported as a Virus.
But the Antivirus which report "BroadBand.exe" as a Virus will report this "myNotepad.exe" also as a Virus.

Similarly the first 35 KB of the "BroadBand.exe" is the actual "BroadBand.exe" and the rest 56 KB is actually "Devcon.exe" in encrypted form.

Hi Limpu,

When I had started building this program I was thinking to build the program as a "Standalone" program (i.e except broadband.exe, nothing else will be needed), but sooner i realized that the s/w need at least one component that is the "devcon.exe" to work properly. So i have appended the devcon.exe at the end of my broadband.exe to achieve my goal of a "Standalone" program. The final result was a bigger broadband.exe with devcon.exe appended at is end (at runtime my program fetches this attachement from the end and create a copy of devcon.exe in windows folder).

After some more development i realize that my s/w need some more visual basic runtime components, so i created a setup package for it. but due to lack of time i had not changed the above method of attachement.

Unfortunately this method of attachement is used by some viruses (I myself learned this process from a virus.. but since VB dosnt have any alternative for this.. I used it). The end result was that some antivirus report it as virus.

After a few weeks i realized this thing and changed my programs code to remove this attachment from broadband.exe and include it in the setup package. This has solved the "virus reporting" for broadband.exe, but unfortunately i forgot to remove the file "Imrans-VOIP.exe" from the package which has the same kind of attachement an its end.

The program "Imrans-VOIP.exe" has nothing to do with the Broadband Helper but i just had included it in the package as it was a very complex program for me. The moment i will remove this file from the setup package.. you will not receive any "virus reporting" message from any antiviruses.

I will arrange some time to remove this file from the package and then reupload the new package to my site but it will take a few days more.

We all have a command in our modem called PPP.. I find this command description somewhere on the internet.

ppp – allow a user to bring up or bring down a ppp connection

SYNOPSIS
ppp config <port.vpi.vci> [<connection Id>] <up|down>

DESCRIPTION
ppp is used to control the ppp interfaces. Ppp command brings up the ppp connection with "up" option, and brings down the connection with "down" option. For ppp connection in on-demand mode, in addition to the "up" option, traffic to the ppp interface needs to be initiated to bring the connection up.

Is it not possible to schedule this "ppp down" to disconnect and "ppp up" to connect..
I tried the command but it is not working.. may be my syntax is wrong.

Today i got a mail from the author.

Earlier I had uploaded my software on www.synthasite.com, since three days i am trying to edit my site imran-utilities.synthasite.com to upload the corrected version of my software but having no success.

I am able to login there but when i try to edit the contents, their system didnt respond. So finally i have uploaded the corrected version of my software on www.ziddu.com.

This means u r using "Bridge Mode" connection, but this s/w is more appropriate for PPPoE mode connection.
However u can use a combination of this s/w along with a s/w named "reconnect.exe" to do the same things in Bridge mode also.

Again this s/w is not the best to use with bridge mode, However if u use this in combination with "reconnect.exe", then u have to save ur username and password in "reconnect.exe".

Norton Internet security 2009 found Virus and Trojan in the file, is there any kind of problem with older versions of the file and if possible please provide link to the file CNET Download.com does not hosts old files.

u can try this Download.
I dont use antiviruses so i cant gurantee about this file to be virus free or not.

Virus found again from the file from the link above, I can exclude the file from being scanned from the antivirus and also from the blocked list in firewall, but wheather it would be safe to do so?

Would you recommend some other software.

Hi friends.. just discovered on the site that a new (and very nice) feature is now available in "Imran's Broadband Utility".. that is :-

"It can determine your IP address, before and after every Reboot."

How will that help ?
