    Default Port Check

    Greetings all !

    My first post here :0:
I was wondering if the Mumbai jantaa could kindly check on the various
ISP's we use that if the port 3724 is open for any of them please.
Reason I ask for this is because I mostly play World of Warcraft (MMO)
and I am wondering if I could opt for any ISP that is not blocking that
    particular port.

For all those who do not know how to check if the ports are blocked or
limited by their ISP's, you could check it through 'ShieldsUP' under the services
menu on grc dot com (since this being my first post I cannot yet link a url)

Sify and Pacenet block the port, so i would like the feedback from other ISP users.
Or, if someone knows of how to check for the blocked port on various ISP's,
please post it here and it would be a great help

    Thank you.

As far as I know, MTNL does not block ports. Neither does BSNL. Are you sure that Sify or Placenet are blocking ports?

You must open ports in your router. Please check the "Torrent and Port Forwarding Guide". Guide talks about torrents and need to port forward but same concept applies to online gaming as well.

Thank you for the reply. I will check the guide you mentioned right away.
Yes, as far as Pacenet is concerned they do block ports. I can assure this
as I spoke to one of their engineers assigned for my area and he said he will
try to open the port for me, but just in case he cannot do it, I will have to
get a static IP from them and they would open the port for me on that IP.
Sify...sigh, call up their CC and after being transferred to 5 different people
in about 18 minutes call, none of them knew what I was talking about.
Infact one of them even went about saying that if I had Sify anywhere plan, I
    could use internet at air'PORT'

As far as the router you mentioned in your post, I am using a cable net. Let
me know if there is something else I need to do for cable net please

    Thanks once again.

    Hi jet-,

Cable modems use a different technology. But every modem has two parts - modem part that actually establishes connection, identifies data packets and correctly translates to data that computer's network can understand, and a router part that is used for NAT, DHCP and other services.

Router part is same in cable as well as ADSL modems. Port forwarding is part of the router configuration and hence procedure is the same.
