Really?? How you concluded that? Is the downstream rate in modem page suggest that?

essbebe, put light on this please!

If you got the connection last mont around 8th your DEC quota is only 1024/30 x 22=
    approx 750 MB!!!
Your usage month also changes .from 1st.
Chargeable units less 1 GB is excess usage.

Check usage Billed for Dec 2009.
I have opted in Nov 09 & it got started from 16 Nov 09. So I only got around 500 MB free in Nov. They billed correctly for that month. Rent was 125+tax for that month.

Dec 09 bill is not yet issued, atleast I don't get it as of today. But I guess from Dec, they 'll charge as per monthly cycle starting for 1st of every month. Following I'll have 1GB free usage this month. Correct me if wrong.

Yes . see the picture your posted.( 8187 kbps d/l)
    We get two sets. normally.

    maximum line speed ( modem's)
and line rate. D/L U/L this depends on ISP.
    And actual(
    conditions apply!

So it usually shows something around 2048 Kbps speed in modem configuration page for upto 2 Mbps plans?

I initially thought that 8187 Kbps shown in my modem page is default value & independent of actual plan.

    @ anuj
you are very lucky dude...i hope i could get that much of speed.
When i was using limited 2mbps plan i used to get speed between 1.8-2.0mbps & infact MTNL exchange is also very near to my house around 600-700 meters as it is in your case so it means the internet speed also depends on the line rate/port opened to you!

    @ others
Recently i have switched to 512kbps unlimited plan, in the beginning i used to get good speed but recently i am getting only 260-270kbps. I checked my modem and it shows Download-stream as 288kbps & Upload-stream as 260kbps.
So it means they have decreased my line rate.....am i correct!!

    Change Mod mode to GDMT.
    Your line conditions extremely bad.
    Check for rusted /contacts/oxidization/blackening etc.
A new pair of short rj11 cables with new contacts may help.
seems you are far away from the Exchange .

SNR Margin (dB): 34.5 (Downstream) 27.0(Upstream)
    Attenuation (dB): 24.5 (Downstream) 11.1(Upstream)

    Router - Beetel 220BX, Plan - BSNL UL750

Even though the values of SNR Margin and Attenuation are good I still experience frequent hanging of the modem mostly while using uTorrent,

Meaning all 4 LED's are ON but the router is completely unresponsive(can't even ping and network activity is zero), I gave to restart the router and then things become OK,

    This happens every 10-15mins,

Is there a problem in the router or splitter or anything else?

Thank you. Welcome to India Broadband Forum.

You can find the SNR Margin/Line Attenuation in the same page of the modem's summary pages. Different modems have different menus - so difficult to say.

BTW, how did you find us here? Please stay put and contribute.

This is all what there is to know:

    Downstream Upstream
    SNR Margin (dB): 34.0 28.8
    Attenuation (dB): 16.5 7.8
Downstream means from ISP to your modem and upstream is vice versa.

    Yes. Certainly.

    1. Ask questions however stupid they might seem. You will find that these simple (stupid) questions are not really stupid at all. They have profound theory and concept behind.

    2. But before asking questions, please certainly do a Google search around. 95% of the time you will find the answer.

    3. Keep participating. You said that you are a novice. Everyone starts as a novice. And everyone is a novice in some field or another. Slowly from a novice, you will become an expert.

    4. Try to help. If you are not able to help people, just point to the right thread or person. People do appreciate this bit also (I tell this so often).

    Thank you.

You SNR Margin is fair. Line attenuation is low and that is excellent. You should not be facing issues.
