Lightbulb UT300-R2U Ver 2.2 - Guide for setting up

    Hello all,

I have a guide on UT300R2U that has old firmware version. BSNL is now offering a new modem (ver 2.2) that has new firmware and most of all no wizard option. This is really annoying.

Anyway, here is a guide for the new UT-300R2U modem.

In case of issues, do let me know.

    Downloaded. Thanks.
Same as Beetel 220Bx1 110BX1series modems.
    ( minor changes possible).
You may please mention , if in Advanced
Virtual server etc port forwarding option is available.
    Thanks.

UT-300R2U v 2.2 does not provide Virtual server option unfortunately - just NAT-DMZ.

just4kix, thank for that amazing bit of tutorial, it was extremely helpful,
but sorry to be an ignorant on these issues,

i am not sure what mode i am using, i am confused between PPPOE and BRIDGE mode, what i do to connect to internet is

    1. switch on the computer
    2. switch on the modem (UT300R2U)
    3. click on the BSNL icon on the desktop

    4. enter my userid @ pass

since i do this i want to know the method i am suing is it BRIDGE MODE or PPPOE,

once i know i can proceed with the steps just4kix has given

BTW i get this in the diagnostic area : could this be the issue thats slowing down my speed?

    sorry and thanks

saesms You are using Bridge mode.

If you are using dialer to connect each time, then it's Bridge mode. Or if the modem/router automatically connects to internet as you switch it on, then it's pppoe mode.

    RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

and in bridge mode can i set the IP to what the bsnl gave that is IP and DNS from TCP/IP settings or should it be set to CHOOSE AUTOMATICALLY?

    Check Diagnostics for
service line 0_35 ( In "Bridged" mode) jpg2.
You have given results for 0_32( jpg8 )
OAM fail is normal for BSNL.
    More entries missing from your
    Diagnostics screen shot.

    Red face Configuring UT300R2U Ver2.2 with LinsysWRT54G

Firstly, a huge thanks to just4kix, his guide to configure LinsysWRT54G was a great boon.
My linksys worked great till the BSNL folks knocked my door to fix a fault, and they ended up changing my old modem with the new ver2.2
Now I followed just4kix new guide for configuring the modem in Bridge mode as earlier and plugged in the Linksys. But I'm getting the error "Can not get IP address".
My thoughts are that the new ver2.2 does not have an option to set DHCP in the modem.
Internet just works fine directly from the modem in both PPPoE and Bridge mode. My struggle is with the Linksys.
any help would be be greatly appreciated...

There is a DHCP option under LAN settings for UT-300R2U v2.2. Check page 10 of the guide (PDF)

ok, I go into Advanced Setup>LAN and I am able see the option to enabe/disable DHCP.
Now I go to Advanced Setup>WAN and change the connection type to 'Bridging' then click 'next' make no changes and click 'next' again and WAN setup summary shows as below,
    VPI / VCI: 0 / 35
    Connection Type: Bridge
    Service Name: pppoe_0_35_1
    Service Category: UBR
    IP Address: Not Applicable
    Service State: Enabled
    NAT: Disabled
    Firewall: Disabled
    IGMP Multicast: Not Applicable
    Quality Of Service: Disabled

    I click 'save'.
Now I go into Advanced Setup>LAN but I dont see the option to enabe/disable DHCP.

    the page ends with
    Enable IGMP Snooping 'check box'
    Standard Mode 'radio button'
    Blocking Mode 'radio button'

    help pls!!
but does this enabling/disabling DHCP affect accessing via the linksys wireless router?

    ************POST #2*************
    Has anyone configured UT300R2U ver2.2 with LinsysWRT54G ?
I just right clicked the modem page "Advanced Setup>LAN" and I see that the modem is programmed to hide the DHCP details if the protocol is 'Bridgemode'.

And I think the BSNL modem needs to be in Bridge mode with DHCP enabled and Linksys in PPPoE mode with DHCP enabled, for this whole thing to work.

is there a way to configure LinsysWRT54G with BSNL modem in PPPoE mode?
    am I missing something?

I have myself the same combination that you are mentioning - UT-300R2U v 2.2 and Linksys WRT54G.

I configured UT-300R2U v 2.2 in PPPoE mode and WRT54G in Automatic DHCP aka Bridge mode. Please refer the guide attched in this thread (use PPPoE mode screens) and then use the following guide:

    Thumbs up

    just4kix,
    the guides are awsome.
the router works perfect, except 1 change which I did.
The local ip as mentioned in the guide for the linksys router, example "101.169.71.82" did not work, instead I tried 192.168.2.1(which was easy for me to remember) and it worked fine.

Thanks again just4kix, you rock,

I am not sure why that IP (101.169.71.82) did not work for you. It works for me. But I am glad that your problem is sorted out.

That is an issue here - in the forum setup. New members start with zero. I have advised Admin to set it to '1'.

I lost at least 15 points that way.

    You have two options:

    a) Configure in bridge mode. No port forwarding required. This is the best option for non-technical people. Just make sure that you have a good AV and firewall.

    b) Use the NAT/DMZ option. This is explained in the guide.
