If you compare with Indian ranges of price, it sure isn't much..

Well, I like to think that I'm able to d/l HD movies.

Something like: Battlestar.Galactica.COMPLETE.720p.BluRay.DTS.x264-REPTiLE.torrent; 280 Go. xD

Anyway, Belgium has seen a HUGE rise of speed and data transfer during the last month. Before the 1st of March, everyone was "stuck" at 4,6 Mbps and 25 GB/month. Then the major ISP (who has like 50% of all Belgians as customers) decided to "unleash" the speed, most of us are now in VDSL2 technology (not ADSL anymore) and can enjoy greater speeds.

My connection could be even greater in fact, but it's still limited: http: //fawkes.be/telnet.PNG . As you can see, I could have up to 77 MBps..

Default We need to write to TRAI, as we are being taken for a ride!!

Its high time that we stop getting taken for granted in this country with speeds that do not match the times. A 1GB file takes hours to download, where as with cheaper rates, people even in the South East Asian countries can download 1 GB within an hour. All ISPs need to understand that we in this country can not be taken for granted just like this. On one side, there is the buzz of 3G and Wimax and then the 4G LTE standards, on the other we are paying broadband rates with the unlimited tag, but in reality it has the fair usage policy restriction on amount of downloads. We need freedom from slow and tightly controlled speeds. Internet is a democratic infrastructure. It is just like being given a car(read PC), an expressway(read the internet) and inspite of having paid the money to be on the expressway, getting told " Do not drive beyond 30 kms per hour!! It is totally a matter of getting screwed the most undemocratic way in our so called democracy, all in front of the eyes of the regulatory authority TRAI. It is high time that TRAI takes strong note and announces the minimum definition of BROADBAND as 1Mbps. Already the actual speeds are at a ratio of 1:8, then the case of distance from residence to the telephone exchange. Speeds being cut in the name of fair usage policy is another lethal attack on our freedom to be on the internet expressway. All of us who believe in our democratic and fundamental rights to live and breathe normally should now get in and use the power of pen(read type on forums like this) to convey to TRAI and the ISPs that enough is enough, stop taking us for granted as we know how to drive this car(our PCs) on the expressway whose HEAVY toll taxes(the internet broadband charges) we are being made to pay, but DO NOT ask us to drive at 30 kms per hour. We are already 10 years behind the rest of the developed world and even some developing countries like China, Russia, Brazil and 10s of others.

Airtel has a 100GB upper limit within the fair usage policy for 1mbps and 1mbps connections. It is way bad for lower speed connections. It is high time that we raise our voice with TRAI about the high charges and slower speeds and about the Fair Usage Policy. We are getting cheated right in front of the eyes of the Department of Telecommunications and TRAI, the regulatory authority.

I used to live there, and just because it is a legal right, doesn't mean it's free. You still have to pay for it, the requirement is that you should be able to *access* at least 1Mbit/s anywhere in Finland.

But then again, Sonera in Finland also recently announced 1Gbit/s unlimited for 99EUR per month, starting in Autumn this year.

Of course, WiFi and everything is plentiful and freely available at public libraries and such - near the central railway station in Helsinki there is one which has free WiFi, or free ethernet access if you want it. Plus a bunch of internet connected computers which you can just walk up to and use.

In that same vicinity, there are 4 or 5 good WiFi APs run by Helsinki City, free for use.

I used to live there and I could do things like walk around the supermarket talking on Skype for free, plus a lot of private citizens don't bother securing WiFi, so my mobile used to collect 10 or 20 open WiFi AP names just walking to the local shop and back.

But paying 60€/month for it, that is.. +/- Rs 4200/month.

Also: I live in downtown Brussels, Belgium.

Those living in the countryside only have 1mbps (sometimes less). So yes 20 mbps is available, but definitely not for everyone
100Mbit/s is nearly available in India... at fairly reasonable prices.

*Disclaimer, I am the Director of the ISP which will be offering it.

Belgium is one of the worst countries in Europe for imposing data transfer limits.

Finland is a haven for internet users..

but in India we have to pay hundreds of bucks to secure even a 2mbps connection and we have to be afraid in ourselves that we dont cross the limits..

India is poorly developing in terms of internet.. still many people have to use their WLLs and basic landlines to access even some bytes of internet..

i can just hope of getting 1GBps connection in India all after 2020.
Site from home gaya bhad mein... AIrtel se bolo FUP band kare.. BSNl se bolo 3G signal do!!!!>: (

    True, it was.

Now it has changed (since March of this year), with several ISPs offering plans with unlimited data transfers (fair use above the 500 Gb/month).

100Mbit/s is nearly available in India... at fairly reasonable prices.
    Via what technology? VDSL2? FTTH?

My telephone line can support up to 70 Mbps (I am very close to the ROP), but is limited by my ISP to 20Mbps (soon 30 Mbps).

*Disclaimer, I am the Director of the ISP which will be offering it.
Would that be available in Pudhucherry? If yes, for what amount? (more or less)

    Thank you!

I dunno about Uttarakhand but most metros can expect to see it next year.

Sweden, Portugal, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan are all either on or about to be on the 1Gbit/s internet access "bandwagon". I'd like it if my company can bring it about in India too.
