Default best Unlimited Broadband plan in Chennai

I am confused with BSNL & Airtel (reliance ,tata and other wireline isp s are not available in my area - thoraipakkam,OMR).In airtel i can even go upto
    Airtel

    1 mbps unlimited for 1699
    512 kbps unlimited for - 1099
    256 kbps unlimited for -799

    BSNL:
    256kbps unlimited for - 750
    512 kbps unlimited for - 1350

both have Rs.500 installation and all the monthly bill comes with 10.2% tax(atleast). Airtel will give me 5% discount on my total bill every month if I support a copy of office id card.I am very much inclined towards airtel. As per the FUP - BSNL has none and airtel has not mentioned anything specifically.any valuable inputs/suggestions

    1.
For modem supplied NON REFUNDABLE deposit is taken by AIRTEL. No monthly rent.
If you need WIFI router Non refundable deposit Rs 1500/=
    2.
BSNL Installation charges waived till 31st March 2010. wifi router cost Rs 1600/=+taxes.

    3.
If you want to download movies etc, Airtel Swift1099 seems better, with Telephone
    \ calls worth Rs 100/=
    4.
If you need more telephone calls ( Landline )
TURBO 1299 offers Rs 499 free telephone calls. Also speed at night 1 Mbps.(10PM to 6AM)
    5.

I prefer Airtel over BSNL. BSNL Chennai is however the one the best units of BSNL. Customer care of BSNL is not very good.

this one is the 512kbps plan right ? I will use primarily for downloading movies,tv series, games, youtube with all other regular banters.
4.If you need more telephone calls ( Landline )
TURBO 1299 offers Rs 499 free telephone calls. Also speed at night 1 Mbps.(10PM to 6AM)
seems good, need to check with them, what about FUP , I have not seen any FUP in all unlimited plan in tamilnadu, while for some other place like mumbai, they reduced the speed after crossing certain download limit, but they has lesser cost for those plans.
5.Tariff links if needed by you .
    [/QUOTE] where is the link?

I heard a lots of good word about Airtel broadband.I used bsnl long time back - during the dialup time. But I am bit impressed by the swiftness of the bsnl and airtel -online and both are responded in almost same time- around 2-3 working days ;the only difference is airtel cc is more polished - they acknowledge my application first and after few days responded with availability (i applied few months back with airtel - they dont have availability in my place during those days). As for bsnl - they called 2-3 times to varify my location. This whole thing took around 7 days for both airtel n bsnl

see previous post for BSNL links.
I have BOTH AIRTEL/BSNL BB connections.

Airtel replaced modem thrice during past three years.
BSNL no problem and ADYAR Exchange is walking distance ( 5 minutes ) for me !
Better to go for a wifi Router 3-in-one.
Airtel will supply Old UTSTAR 3001-g1
    modified as Beetel 450TC1
ADSL modem Beetel 110TCI USB port connection will be missing.
To connect more than one computer or use laptop in wifi mode A wifi unit is suggested.

does airtel charge you for replacing modem ?
I don't have much knowledge about modem and wi-fi router. I only have a single pc. Later on I will buy a wi-fi modem/router myself which will be compatible with all of the major ISP -any suggestions for brand(like netlink), model please?

In this forum most members who bought wifi modem were seen buying Netgear router. But you can get the same from BSNL for Rs. 1600 + tax or Rs. 80 per month rent.

AIRTEL replaces their modem FREE of cost.
( Only a single computer can be used.Need additional units to connect extra desktops or Laptops in Wireless mode )

ADSl modem ( Beetel 110TCI) is for connecting with cable RJ45.
Stand Alone Wifi router ( WGR614V( etc ): usually can connect 4 more desktops, and any number of Laptops can be used in RANGE.

ANY ADSL modem or wifi router can be used
    with all ISPs.

    Para two:

AIRTEL BB connection with "FREE rental" adsl modem. ( Non refundable deposit Rs 500/=
    +Installation charges )

Presume you don't need WIFI mode.

Netgear WIFI router ( needs adsl Modem to connect) WGR614V9 etc available at MERCY
Electronics ( slightly higher cost compared to
main Ritchie Street Anna Salai shops )
    for Rs 1400/= onwards.
Other models like Linksys/DLINK also available. ( Enquire in nearby 2 or three shops also . Opposite shop, near Corporation Office, and next to Saravana Hardwares )
ADSL modem may be available for about Rs 1100/= onwards. ( not verified)
