    Default Broadband options

    Hello everyone

    I am visiting Hyderabad, India after about 10 years and not very sure of the availability of broadband options. I need a fast connection to be able to connect to my company's network for work related purposes (mostly during nights)

    Here are my requirements.

    1) 1 Mbps download speed
    2) Free from power interruptions
    3) Unlimited download (no data limit)
    4) No hidden charges

    Can someone kindly guide me?

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks mickey.

    I am assuming Airtel requires a phone line? If so, do they charge for the time spent connected to the modem.

    please see tariff plans of BSNL
    Check Link 1 given below.

    Power Interruptions: Depends on City/Town/State! Usually NCR or State capitals , not much power outage. Hyderabad . Prone to
    agitations now. Bandh etc .
    You may have to buy a Generator ! or heavy duty UPS.
    PHONE Line:
    Telephone calls are charged separately.
    BB usage as per tariff plan.
    Time based BB plans almost extinct /discontinued now.

    sorry. should have been clearer. In Hyderabad, a power outage at the cable shop means no internet at home. thats my understanding.

    so far airtel BB seems to be a good bet. looks like there are no per minute charges and no hidden charges either.

    Can someone confirm please?

    Get a BSNL EvDO connection. I gives up to 3.1 Mbps. However not everyone gets that speed. Still you will be able to get somewhere around 1.5 Mbps. It is unlimited and used to cost Rs. 750 per month ( I heard this rate changed from April ). You may also try Reliance Net connect or Tata Photon Plus. The advantage of mobile broadband is that you need not worry about power outages. Hope this helped. If in doubt, feel free to ask.

    Thanks for the suggestion. That sounds very promising. I'll keep that in mind as a last resort.

    I am leaning towards BB land connection (Airtel in particular) because I need to split my Internet connection between my laptop and my voip phone adapter.

    Thanks Dilip. Any idea on how long it takes to get an Airtel BB connection?

    If there are Airtel users in your locality, and DB
    (Distribution Board) available, after routine , Feasibility/ID check/Ration card etc , may take less than three days.
    Pay by cheque only Non refundable deposit for Modemetc ( rent free)
    Contact send email to 121@airtel.in
    giving contact number , location , address to confirm availability
    2. VOIP module has another Rj45 to connect to a WIFI router.
    From External PHONE junction an ADSLmodem required.
    I use same adsl modem for ( change Rj11 cable from Phone junction) both Airtel/BSNL.
    setup;
    PHOne JUnction=>ADSL splitter=ModemPort==beetel110BX1
    (or Ut300r2u by BSNL almost same )
    Rj45=VOIP module==>Rj11 to VOIP phone
    Rj45 to computer desktop or
    Internet port of say Netgear WGR614 V9 etc.
    Once VOIp connected , system(desktop) can be switched off.
