Cheers man, very helpful. Do you think BSNL gives good speeds?
As I had posted in the other broadband forum, reliance and asianet have me hellish experiences over here in Trivandrum.
Watch out for the offers from BSNL and Airtel. Use the links given by essbebe to find BSNL plans and use airtel broadband new plans | high speed broadband plans 1mbps to 4mbps to find some of the new plans from Airtel.
Thanks yo! I think i'll go for Airtel/BSNL. I've used BSNL before and it was decent but a bit faulty.
Asianet sucks.. poor service, and no technical knowledgr. I'd suggest that you'd go for BSNL/Airtel. Since you are planning on torrents, BSNL will be a good option as they dont have FUP unlike Airtel. Airtel offers good speed, but the data transfer limit is very less, after which your speed throttles between 250-600Kbps.!
my cousin in vaduthala is using BSNL nad he say its the worst ..Speed is low ...the think is every one in cochin use only bsnl and hence u get very slow speed ....i will suggest u take bsnl wifi ..i think its good option
I wanted to go for Airtel, but they are saying they don't offer service in my place(their network comes till Edapally and my place is 2kms from there).
BSNL WIMAX seems to be a costly affair for unlimited plans. I guess BSNL Broadband is the only way in front. I was planning to take BB Combo ULD 1700. 2 Mbps upto 40 GB, 256 kbps beyond 40 GB.
The quality of service for any ISP operating in this country is dependent upon various factors. I have had experiences where the same ISP works great for a particular subscriber; where as his friend who is residing in the next junction is facing horrendous situation while using the same ISP.
Fact Check - I faced plenty of problems with Reliance. However, my cousins living in the other part of the city is experiencing the best service from them.
@ suresht24
There is something termed as contention ratio for ISPs. In short it means that a certain limited number of subscribers will be connected to a particular node. The system is designed to operate with maximum efficiency even if all the subscribers in the same node are utilizing the maximum bandwidth possible.
Anyway, I think a wired connection is better than wireless options.
Airtel Broadband has limited presence in this state. This is one of the reasons why they used to offer unique plans such as 1mbps UL for 499/- per month in Kerala until last year. The curious part is, they are unwilling to spread out their services to other areas which lie at moderate distances from the city.
Over here BSNL rules the roost.
