    Default Hmmm...

It's not possible... You'll find lots of softwares and programs on the net that promise boosting internet speed, but none work... Those softwares only tweak your computer's performance... What your Internet Service Provider is giving you is in their control, not yours...

It's easy. Get a Battle-Axe (Try at the nearest museum first). Alright! and go and hack it.

Ahhhh, yes, the old axing-the-modem trick!

It's messy, though. And expensive!

For DSL, fixed at the exchange, so however many bits one cuts the modem into, no change possible.

I've heard whispers that cable connections are hackable, but for all I know that might be just as much a myth as hacking DSL. Even if it isn't, would we discuss it here? No! Because it would be theft.

hacking cable connections back in the days was possible, i had done it with one of my friends one. Cable modems use tftp to download a config file from the servers, you just need to use dns/host file hijacking to turn it to your comp and set in any value you want .

well this is the technique we used and I am not sure if it will still work, i did this 6-7 years ago.

I noticed this could be done cause the isp i was with was using nat, so we were all placed in a glorified LAN, i could access other customers computers, and i am not going to elaborate cause it might be against the rules of this forum.

The speed is not determined by the modem. Its offered by the ISP. Theres nothing you can control gaining access to the modem, except for some port forwarding and other security features.!
