Default just moved back to India... best broadband provider/package in Chandigarh?

    Hi,

What's the best broadband package on offer in Chandigarh right now (or Punjab/North India/India, if Chandigarh is too specific)?

The bandwidth quota should be unlimited (or, at least, not less than 100 GB per month) and the speed shouldn't be less than 2 Mbps (ideally 10Mbps+), and the service ought to be reliable.

I'm located in sector 34-C, if that helps (if I'm not wrong, there's a BSNL exchange not too far away).
Hoping some of you experts can help me out...

    Many thanks,
    Aki

BSNL is available in majority of the areas. Check with your local exchange if they can provide the connection in your area.

BTW where were you living recently??

    Sarvesh,

Thanks for the reply. It seems most people are using Airtel here. But checking out the forums and stuff I get the general impression that BSNL is considered better than Airtel(?)
I've been living in the Middle East for the last year and before that for 8 or so years in the UK.

    Regards

If u want unlimited 2Mbps plan then Yes BSNL have it at Rs 9000/m or 2Mbps upto 150GB beyond that 512Kbps @ Rs 3300/m.
    .:COMBO BB Unlimited:.

But why u came back to India? I'm thinking to fly UK this Sept. I dont know what will happen there!!

    Paul,

Thanks for the BSNL price quote. High speed, unlimited broadband seems hideously expensive in India; I might go for the 2 Mbps/150GB plan that you mentioned.

As for why I came back from UK, it's personal and rather complicated to explain; I might go back eventually. But anyway, good luck to you.

Are there any high speed plans with unlimited night-time usage? I don't mind scheduling downloads overnight.

I've never had to stop at customs, and I don't think they're bothered about HDDs. I've regularly carried a 500 GB external drive in and out. Can't say about DVDs, but to be honest I don't think they care. But don't take my word for it.

Of course its illegal downloading copyrighted files, whether through torrents, or anything else, but people still do it. I don't really use torrents, I used to just purchase an account at a good filesharing website (like Rapidshare or Depositfile), and I think it's safer than torrents, because you only download, you don't have to upload anything (uploading is considered a more serious offense than downloading).

That's not too bad either, I guess. I like the sound of the 2 Mbps/150GB from BSNL plan better, although it costs twice as much. I think I'll make up my mind between one of these plans. I don't want to waste any more time over it.

I haven't really set a budget, but I don't want to blow a lot of money on Internet access. I'll just have to cut down on downloading "useless" stuff. My main requirement is I need to download Apple development software like XCode and beta releases as soon as they come out, and those tend to be anywhere between 1 GB - 4GB a pop.

Ya man, atleast i know that, anyway thank you!
    You know what?
I searched a lot on the internet about downland and found that its illegal in Europe and USA & if u download via warez sits (like Rapidshare) u'll be not caught coz u r not uploading, i mean u r downloading for ur own personal use and not sharing that content with other people.
Also have look over to some of the news that people got tracked and fine about thousands of pounds & dolors.
also one of my cousin bro live in US told me yes its illegal....u'll be caught definitely.

But on the other hand, one day i've checked by myself via IP, 1 person from US, Canada and even from UK seeding the content to me. They have already completed.
Thats make me really confused people still download from all over the world.

Anyway thanks again for sharing ur views!!
    correct me if i'm wrong.

After 75 GB FUP you can buy speed on demand from Airtel if you want more speeds..
