Default Out of Options - Please recommend a Broadband Service Provider

It was a quite afternoon, I was at the lunch table with a couple of friends. The phone rang, it was from my wife. I answered the phone and my wife said Airtel is suing you in a court in Delhi, if you don't reach delhi for hearing in an hour you could face upto Rs. 20,000 in fines or more. I thought she was joking, she reiterated that she was not and that she was in the middle of a meeting and had got out because she had got a call from the court people and needed me to take care of this immediately. Either pay outstanding of Rs.1100 or fine of Rs. 20,000. I could not afford this at this time. The workload was too much and really didnot need legal hassles. I was near the airtel office on Banerghatta Road. I hopped on a friends bike and we quickly made the payment in half an hour and provided the reciept number to my wife who realyed it to the lawyer.

About 6 months back when I was shifting, I put in a request to shift my connection. Instead of moving it 4 KMs from Marathahalli to Bellandur, they shifted the connection to Hyderabad. I came to know this only after about 10 days of shifting when I was still without BroadBand. When I enquired when the connection would be shifted back to my residence, they said it would take another 10 days. I asked them to cancel my connection. They didnot and charged me for the month. When the collection agents called, I explained the issue and reason for not paying the amount, called up their customer service and also explained the situation to them. When the collection calls stopped, which was 1 per day for about 3 months, I thought they had understood the issue and everything was sorted out. However it seems that they issued a leagal notice against me which they sent to my old address even after me providing the new address for shifting. They said that didnot get any response and this went to some court in Delhi. One afternoon my wife gets a call from somebody in the delhi court that if I dont pay an outstanding of Rs. 1100 or appear in the court in Delhi, within an hours time (I dont think I would have reached there if I had wings), I would endup paying close to Rs. 20,000 in fines to the court etc. Now this is pure bullying and I was forced to pay the amount as I didnot want to go to a court in Delhi or any where or get involved in a legal hassle. This too when just two weeks before that day I had taken a new connection from airtel. I am currently on Airtel and do not want to continue with them.

However I am out of options. I generated a lead on the BSNL website - a person named Rudra called me and said that he would come and collect the papers from me. I waited for 3 weeks he didnot turn up, made multiple calls to the same answer everytime, I will come and collect it tomorow. Finally I raised a second lead, a person turned up my residence, took details and required documents, said that I would get a notification in 4 days on my phone that a request has been raised. 28th March to 10 April no message and no connection. I called up the bank on the 10th April and put a stop pay just in time, got the message the same day that the cheque had been dishonoured. No connection.

I placed a call to Tata Communications on 10th April, the called on 11th April for the Wimax connection. The connection costs much more and the speeds are much lower. I depend on the internet a lot and need atleast >1MBPS speed. They have unreasonable costs for the 1.5 MBPS connection and I have really read about their poor customer service actually more than a couple of reviews.

I was using TTN internet for about 5 months. Had serious problems with download and upload speed and the GBs used. They claim I used up 30 GBs of download in 10 days. Wow I was neck deep in work at that time and had not even time to watch a single movie, where did I use up the 30 GBs. Tikona had issues as they didnot have a tower near my area.

I am out of options. Could somebody recommend an Internet service provider, that has reasonable customer service - presales and post sales and a good offering with very good uptimes. I work remotely a lot and well my livelyhood depends on it basically. I am located in Belllandur, Bangalore.

Also if I get one of those USB devices like Tata Photon, will I be able to homenetwork them using a router? My wife and I work remotely quite a bit and will need to be on at the same time.

    Thanks,
    Sam

So sad to hear this from you... These ISPs are bullshit.

Thanks Sarvesh. The question would still remain if I can use the datacard or the USB in a homenetwork scenario. How do I hook it upto a router and share the connection so that my wife and I can use it.

    Thanks,
    Sam

I've used Airtel and Tata Photon+ in Belllandur (City Lights Apartment) couple of years back. Both worked fine. Since Airtel is not an option for you now, you can use Tata Photon + on your PC; and share the internet connection with your Wife's PC by using Connectify.
