Default Advise on internet providers and plans for Pune (Navi Peth area)

I am looking for advice on which internet service providers to use for unlimited internet plans in the Navi Peth area. I am comfortable with paying roughly 1500/month; can anyone suggest something that will best suit my needs? I do not mind paying yearly due upfront to ensure I get a better rate.
I also need help with the hardware required; recommendations on modem and router that I should buy or if any providers give those for free as a signup bonus that would be great.

    Thanks,

    Hi Aadesh,

It would be easier if you posted a list what your options are. It was easy suggestin what to get 4-5 years ago when there were hardly any choices but with so many broadband prividers these days it is impossible to pin point one that would suit a users needs. Have a look at the names that are available in the area and I am sure you would get plenty of replies from members here.

Unfortunately your question is too subjective.

    Thanks

Admin, Thanks for your reply back! I actually am travelling back from US and want to setup something longterm for my parents. The one that I had many years ago was BSNL and that's it. I honestly do not even know what is offered today hence I was hoping to get some help or leads that I can pursue.

    Thanks,

Just4Kix is from Pune and he uses Beam broadband's fiber optic connection and their prices are reasonable. Have a read through this thread : http://www.indiabroadband.net/beam-b...eases-fup.html

You can also try Excitel (That is what I am using). BSNL broadband's only problem is that it is government run and when there is a fault you have to keep calling them otherwise when it works it works.

If Beam and Excitel are both not available in your area then your best bet is to ask locally and find out which cable company operates and get a connection from them. One benefit of local cable operator is that when the connection goes down you can call cable operators mobile number and they turn up quickly to resolve problems.

Hathway is another cable broadband option and their prices arent bad : http://www.hathway.com/Broadband/HomeBroadband

Joister is also available at Pune but I am not sure if they operate in your area, worth giving them a quick call to find out : https://www.joisterconnect.com/maxmileage

There are plenty of other choices as well and the ones I have provided are not in any order, just what I could remember.

    I hope this helps.

Apologies. I do not use Beam Broadband Fibre. I live in Shivajinagar area and I am using BSNL and You Broadband.

    a) BSNL is 1 mbps, 6 GB FUP per month, 512 kbps after FUP. It is reliable but not speedy. It higher speed plans are expensive and not generous in terms of FUP.

    b) I added You BB to my home about 3 months ago. My plan is Hurricane 15 mbps. It is giving me 15+ mbps speed always and FUP is 180 GB for 3 months which is really generous. After FUP, the speed is capped to 1 mbps which is also reasonably good or at least as good as BSNL. I am still 16 days away from 90 days limit and I still have over 95 GB data left.

You should check whether YOU BB is available in your area and if yes, you can go for it. HTH.

Thanks for your reply back! I been in Pune for a week now and unfortunately there are very limited options in my area. I do not have Hathway or You which were the best options. The only option I have is either BSNL or Tikona. In Tikona too the max speed my area gets is 4 Mbps and after FUP limit its drops to 512kbps which will end up being very slow. BSNL is same slower speeds and expensive. I will keep looking, if you have any other suggestions please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Hello,
I have decided to go ahead with Tikona... 4mpbs @ Rs. 1050. 80GB FUP then 512kpbs. I know this is not the best deal but this is the only option right now.
Can you suggest what will be a good router to buy or a router and wi-fi extender combo. The house I am trying to wire is three storied(G+2) and I would like to have good connectivity on all three floors.
One other option that I am interested in block feature for unwanted sites since I have two young nieces and do not want them to be exposed to unwanted content so if a router has that feature I would prefer that.

    Thanks!

    Hello All,
Just an update; the technical person from Tikona said there is no service in my area. Only option is BSNL but it's expensive and slow... If any one knows about any other service providers in the area please let me know; the house is located near Vaikunth Smashanbhumi, wanted to point it out since there are service providers in the Navi Peth area but for some reason they do not provide service to the area I live in.

    Thanks!
