The speed is proportional to various variables such as the present levels of network congestion and the distance of the tower. Once 3G is commercially launched by other private operators, you can expect a boost in the existing speed levels.

Mobile Broadband provides access to the internet using a mobile network. It can deliver speeds somewhat similar to a cable broadband. Future mobile networks are expected to deliver even better speeds ranging beyond 100Mbps. The mobile broadband providers in UK have started adapting various new mobile technologies like 3G and 4G to improve existing speeds. The Average Mobile Broadband Speed offered in the country is between 3.6Mbps to 7.2Mbps

I have used BSNL and it's service is pathetic. Only way to not get frustrated with their service is not to use it

Hey you guys. I am actually confused here.

When you say 225kbps, do you mean that you are downloading a file in windows and it shows 225kBps or 225kbps?

The difference is kilo-bits vs kilo-bytes.

    One byte is 8bits.

The reason I ask is that there is a big difference in the two nomenclatures.

When BSNL say that they provide 3.6mbps connection speed, it means that the max speed you would see when you are downloading from a good source on the net is 384 kBps.

I use BSNL 3G to connect in Blore / Hassan / Mangalore / Mysore in Karnataka. I am getting 100kBps (1.2mbps) connection with just one - two bars of signal strength).

Am sure a lot of you know the nomenclature but just clarifying.

BSNL 3G performance in Kerala is very good and especially in kochi and Trivandrum.

They are planning to spread the services to many areas in kerala soon.

Also i heard that some parts of india BSNL is going to upgrade the platform to 7.2Mbps or 14.4 Mbps within some months

Lightbulb how consistent is it ?

Hey guys, after seeing so many posts about its speed, planning to buy one..
How good is their datacard or modem or whatever they give with the 3g sim ??

I am planning to go to unlimited plan of 1359/- Rs .
So how much speed in "kilo BYTES" per second can I expect ??
How consistent is it for torrents ?? ( using utorrent ?)

Currently using the pathetic broadband of bsnl, 2mbps connection, and imho, it sucks

(btw, sorry for revoking an old thread )

that doesn't seem like a unlimited plan offer ?? is it ?
anyway, I just want to know is the datacard capable of providing good service or should we make our own alternatives ??

thats the bitswap setting on my router..

and btw, I was using google dns, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 till now, just now switched to bsnl's dns for testing

what other screenshot do you need ?? pls ask and help me out

ps : will try tcp optimizer and report back in minutes

browser using : mostly chrome, sometimes when I am mad, use ie9 beta

well, ok, after running tcp/ optimiser in "optimised" mode, I am seeing speeds of 180 ~ 190 KBPS (yes, kilo bytes). A partial relief I must say..

btw, my wifi router (wrt320n) is running at 5ghz band, 40mhz bw, N mode only.. (if that does have to do something)

    5ghz band,....
WIFI routers are in the band 2.4 to 2.5 GHZ. (approx)
Also 3G spectrum ( will confirm later if needed)
try to select Channel 6 or 11 or
if option is available choose "AUTO' mode.

    2. See in "Broadband How to ......" forum for guides by@Just4Kix.
using adsl modem +wifi router guides available.
    Use them as reference.
Usually the Wizard will set up the connection.
    feedback.

well, in dd-wrt forum I read 5ghz with auto channel would give max throughput.. so using it.. and anyway, I removed wifi out of the equation and tried.. directly connecting my laptop to the modem through ethernet port.. Everything is still same.. I am getting torrents (healthy ones) at 180kBps and youtube watching still sucks .. Big time..

Test speed here both in LAN mode and wifi mode.
