Actually what's this 3G service. What's the facilities belonging it. I'm using N70 and have an N81 mobiles. What're the chances i can use these phones with 3G service.? Please describe.

Hmm thats a nice question Many of us still dont know what is 3G and what are the capabilties of 3G.3G stands for the third generation of wireless communication technology. It refers to pending improvements in wireless data and voice communications through any of a variety of proposed standards. Its offers a maximum speed of 2Mbps Which will provide Amazing services in our mobile like Live TV,High speed internet,Video calling, etc .You can use your phones n70 and n81 both of them are 3g enabled you can enjoy high speed browsing and downloading .you can watch tv online you can do videocalling via your 3g enbled handset by this you can speak to person face to face using your mobile for this you and the person calling you should have 3g enbled handset and a prefered data plan. You can watch videos online, you can see tv chanels and all.at amzzing speed.BSNL is the only network provides 3g in kerala it will be iplemnt all our keral at the end of march i heard this fro my exachange.Just buy a BSNL sim from your nearset exchage.check more details about 3g here 3G Home Page and if you want the details related to kerala bsnl go here http://www.kerala.bsnl.co.in/MobInd/3GHom.asp

I am using MTNL 3G for the last 3 months and quite satisfied. Its also acts as a backup alternative when the normal Broadband connection fails.

3G not sucessfully here coz most people doent know the advantage and only BSNL and Mtnl providing the service so its not wide .Hope the 3G auctions will finlly take place in march and soe ore providers will have the license so the competations become strong and the price will come down and popularity increses. The world is looking beyond 4G we are still on the starting face of 3G.and also low cost 3G handset have to be introiduced for the popularity of 3G I think Nokia and samsung are coming up with cheap handset in the for of noia 2730c and samsungs C5130 which come nearly for rs 5000

There seems to be a fair amount of confusion on BSNL's 3G services. As far as I cangather from their website, they are offering full HSDPA services over the UMTS 2100 band. What this means for consumers (that is us...) is:

    1. If you have a phone that is HSDPA enabled (3.5G) you will be able to get speeds upto 3.6/7.2 mbps. This would ofcourse depend upon your phone model, signal strength, location, server load etc.
    2. If your phone is not HSDPA enabled but 3G capable, then you will top out at about 384 kbps.

I have two phones, both 3.5G (Nokia N95 and E55) and am going out to buy a 3G sim today to find out if this hoopla is worth the money - the internet access charges are pretty high at around 3k per month for unlimited access. Will report results asap after I have a chance to use it. BTW, I have just used the HSUPA services on one my phones in Singapore and you can get about 5-6 mbps at most places there...

But then if I get ~4mbps of the advertised 7.2 mbps I would be quite happy...

I would believe that in the initial phases when the servers are operating on lower loading, higher speeds may be possible presuming you are located close to a 3G tower. Currently, there is no incentive to give better service as the government in its infinite wisdom has not held the 3G spectrum auction though it is year overdue, as a result of which we only have BSNL/MTNL as providers, whose customer service skills are almost non-existant (I went to the local Customer Service Center to get a sim only to be told that it was holiday, Saturday don't you know...). Given this situation, I would believe that even 3 mbps would be ok and anything over that a short term bonus

I am using MTNL 3G prepaid service since Nov 09 with Micromax H360 HSDPA handset.
The default data rates are 1p/10KB which is roughly Rs.1/MB. This gets deducted from the core talktime.

In addition the other special data recharge options available are
    Rs.50 for 60MB (plus Rs.14 added to talktime - so effective Rs.36)
    Rs.99 for 130MB (plus Rs.4 added to talktime - so effective Rs.95)
Rs.250 for 0.5GB (plus Rs.5 added to talktime & 25min local video call)
Rs.450 for 1GB (plus Rs.6 added to talktime & 50min local video call)
Rs.750 for 2GB (plus Rs.7 added to talktime & 75min local video call)
Rs.1500 for 15GB (plus Rs.13 added to talktime & 100min local video call)
Rs.2500 for unlimited (plus Rs.11 added to talktime & 150min local video call)
All above recharge valid for 30 days with no roll-over of un-utilised usage

I would not call those high rates, given the option of mobility

For accessing data on phone, I found Rs.450 option to be more than adequate, even with regular use.

For using as a modem connected to laptop, Rs.750 option was a better option.
