Default Unable to configure Samsung mobile modem on PC

Hi everyone. I have a new bsnl 3G connection which im using to browse the net on my Samsung SGH-F480 handset. But I'm unable to configure the handset modem on my PC, so that I can browse the net on my PC after connecting the mobile to the PC. The BSNL call centre has not been able to help me because the options they are suggesting are not available on Windows Vista. Please help. On the mobile I have installed 5 configuration settings sent by BSNL i.e, bsnlwap, bsnlmms, bsnllive, bsnlportal, and bsnlnet, of which I'm using bsnlnet to connect to the net on the mobile phone. Thanks in advance.

After setting up dial up connection, and entering the proxy address, clicked on connect, but it said the port required for connection was not open. Went to control panel, phones and modem, clicked on Samsung mobile modem, then properties. There is no option to enter APN. Am stuck. Help!

    1. If you have Bluetooth in PC; One thing you can try is connect your mobile with PC using Bluetooth.Create a connection for using interent using a option that comes when anew device is connected. Thats it. then connect your mobile using USB cable and start the connection.

    2. Create a new connection and try all *99***@#. where @ one of be one of them 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0.

    Unhappy

This particular Handset (SGH F480) does not support Bluetooth PAN (Personal Area Network) required to make a new internet connection via bluetooth.

Samsung web sites QIG lists "Blue tooth" facility.
Confirm : your PC Or laptop has "BT" facility.
Does GPRS mode work ? or WAP mode ?
Download user manual from Samsung web site.
( if not provided to you )

Both PC and phone have bluetooth, and the handset is paired with the PC. But when I go to network connection, rt click on 'bluetooth network connection', and then click on 'view bluetooth network devices', the message I get is this - "No Bluetooth devices or computers that support personal area network services have exchanged passkeys with this computer". I checked out in a F480 review that this model supports only bluetooth connection for data transfer, but does not support bluetooth PAN (Personal area network) required for connecting to the net

You must use the Samsung PC Studio software. From the tools menu, select "Connect to internet". I tried this with my Samsung S3310 and Idea GPRS. It worked very well.

Beyond this, I am unable to help.

Tried Samsung PC Studio. Doesn't work. They have preinstalled, unchangable settings for BSNL, which do not match the required settings

Have you added the extra initiallization string for the modem. I didnt see that you mentioned having updated this.

Start > Settings > Control panel > Phone and modems options > Click on Modems > Select modem > Properties > Advanced > Extra initialization command >
    Type the following string

    AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","bsnlnet"

Note that the initialization string is CAS Sensitive so copy and paste from above.

Also, in my case, automatically two standard bluetooth modems were installed after pairing the phone. If this is the case for you, update the initiallization string for both the modems as above.

    Then

Start > Connect To > Right Click the connection you have set up and click on Properties > In the General Tab, ensure that both instances of the Bluetooth modems are selected.

Alternately, the Samsung software normally does this for you. However if u say that the settings in the software are wrong, download the latest software update from samsung website also and try.

I hope this works for you.

Also, I just found this on the Karnataka BSNL 3G Information page located at

    karnataka(dot)bsnl(dot)co(dot)in/3G/index1(dot)htm

Here is what it says for laptop connections

    Settings for connecting with laptop

    HOW to do LAPTOP Configuration

Install Drivers for Bluetooth in PC/Laptop (if connecting media between PC/Laptop and handset is Bluetooth).
Drivers for Data cable/IR will be installed when the CD supplied with the handset is installed in PC/Laptop.
Install required software in PC/Laptop (For Example Nokia PC suit for Nokia Handset).
Required software will be available in the CD supplied along with the handset or can be downloaded from WEB
Open the application (For eg Nokia PC suit) > Options >
”Connect to Internet” > “Settings” or “network wizard” > “add new connection”.
Select appropriate modem (Bluetooth/data cable/IR) if it is prompted
Select configuration as “manual” and service provider as “others”
    Access Point name (APN): bsnlnet
    User Name: blank
    Password: blank
Dialing Number: *99# (if it is prompted)
Leave all other fields as blank
It is not required to do any settings in handset to connect to the laptop/PC

    Extra Initialization string

Start > Settings > Control panel > Phone and modems options > Click on Modems > Select modem > Properties > Advanced > Extra initialization command >
    Type the following string

    AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","bsnlnet"
