    Default Bsnl 3G usb data card settings for Ubuntu 10.04

    Hi , I bought a Bsnl 3G data card (USB) model no LW272 but i dont know how to configure it for Ubuntu 10.04 (both desktop and netbook remix editions). Could anyone please help. I have installed wvdial. I am relatively new to linux so step by step directions would be helpful. It is working well in winodws xp.

    @pritam

    first u need to understand that unlike windows ubuntu detects as a drive not as a modem. so u need to switch to modem modem from cd drive mode - using usb_modeswitch

    u need to do liittle of google & find the right driver sl/code for ur modem type and then make necessary changes by editing the corresponding file

    the good thing about ubuntu is tat u have to take time to resolve ur issues & in the process u learn lot of things. so take some time to google and leave the habit of getting ready food...believe me then u will learn a lot....this is how i solved the same problem of mine..i use micromax mmx 300g bsnl usb..right now things r working for me & hope they will, for u too!

    u can take some help from here :-

    I installed Ubuntu 9.04 and loaded Join Air software that came with the USB data card . It did not work initially but I went to settings and editted the connection settings. Phone number should be *99# and APN should be bsnlnet. These settings are for south india and i got it from the software that manages the datacard in windows. Untill Jaunty support ends in october 2010 this is a viable option. Since i am not an advanced user, Jaunty is good enough for all practicle purposes.

    This is a better way. Try this

    indiabroadband.net/bsnl-3g/30428-bsnl-data-card-lw272-configuration-ubuntu-10-04-a.html#post292972

    Please add 'www(dot)' before the above url to make it complete.

    Default Connection disconnecting...

    I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
    I have Huawei E169 data card. When i connect Internet from windows 7 or windows xp using the software which came with the datacard. It's working fine.

    But when i'm using the same data card in Ubuntu it's disconnecting very often. some time can't even browse continues for 5 mins. The speed is good.

    Is that issue related to ISP or Ubuntu?

    can somebody help me to fix this issue.?
