Thread: GPS not working on BSNL 3G

I received a free 3G sim from bsnl and today I activated that sim to use the 3G services. All services are running fine in 3G except GPS.

I am using Nokia N97 but before using Airtel Mobile Office for Free Voice Navigation (GPS) and working fine but in 3G network other services are fine except GPS (phone always showing Waiting for GPS, I know GPS service based on phone) but not working in BSNL sim card and working fine in airtel.

So, anyone can please tell me there is any extra setting in BSNL, please suggest? I am using Access Point (bsnlnet) received from bsnl for my phone.

Like to mention, Location Positioning working fine in Maps (with bsnl) but not free voice navigation and both things working fine in Airtel, sounds strange naa?

How are you making sure that your mobile is using bsnlnet for "Applications" ? Double check the connections used for "Applications" . It might be still pointing to some old setting.

I used aircel and it could provide me location information on google map properly. the GPS working fine with AGPS. Once i changed to BSNL the GPS stopped working. somewhere in the net i found similar problem faced by one from AP where in the local cell tower is not providing proper location information.

This is true as none of BSNL Settings are compatible for agps. For some reasons they don't respond.

I use a MTNL sim card and when I go out of Delhi it uses BSNL network and BSNL 3g for me works fine for GPS as well so It would be safe to assume that GPS works fine with BSNL 3g or atleast in North India (Punjab, Himachal pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand) I have also been to parts of Madhya pradesh and it worked fine over there as well.

You need to find another reason for your gps not working on Bsnl's 3g network.
Do we not have anyone else with a Nokia N97 on Bsnl's network who can confirm if his/her GPS works on 3g?

Your MTNL number uses MTNL GPRS Settings for using aGPS or simply connecting to Internet so it is working fine. Let me give you an example....any Vodafone user can use IDEA and Reliance Network while roaming in some circles and can surf internet. He does not have to use Idea/ Reliance GPRS Settings. This is how it works. BSNL GPRS Settings have some kind of problem. I have SonyEricsson Phone. Whether it is Nokia or SonyEricsson; it is always impossible to communicate with aGPS Server if you are on BSNL.

I m using the BSNL 3G sim and my Navigation is working great on 3.5G Speed on my Nokia E72. You shud check the following points.

1.check ur connection settings. see which is the default connection for applications
2.check your GPS application settings. set it to "always ask" if u change the sim frequently.
3. Enable cellinfo display in network settings, it helps in getting GPS signals more quickly on agps.
