Unhappy BSNL-3G SIM, speed on datacard like GPRS ????

I am new in this forum, thanks for helping me in advance.

My location is Kanpur (UP). 3G services are available in my city.
    I have purchased BSNL-3G SIM recentely Rs.180/- , validity 6-months.

Value in the SIM is about 20/- . I have NOT re-charged for any value after purchasing the sim card.

When I check this sim in Micromax DataCard on my LapTop, it hardly gives downloading speed 20-30kbps. While I was expecting about 2Mbps. If not so, it should give AT LEAST downloading of 1Mbps. With UMTS setting or AUTO settings... no difference at all.

Why the speed is very slow?

Should I recharge the sim with at least RV 275/- or higher value to get high speed?

Are Recharge Vouchers for DATA are different than voice topup/RV ?

How to get high speed....help me.

    >> Why the speed is very slow?

Speed depends upon 3G service availability and signal strength.

    >> Should I recharge the sim with at least RV 275/- or higher value to get high speed?

After 120 recharge, you should be able to get the maximum speed. If the balance is null or negative, your software will fail to connect.

    YES

    >>How to get high speed....help me.

Check service availability and signal strength. If 3G is available in your locality, set UMTS/HSDPA in your software or mobile phone.

    Default Keep trying...

To those who are 100% sure that their configuration is correct but still getting low speed:

    1. Keep trying various configuration options. This might sound funny, but it works. For e.g., after getting a new mobile and 3G SIM, I was able to browse the net in my mobile phone with reasonable speed but could not watch videos or view email. I thought it was instrument fault or BSNL limitation, but by changing the APN to correct value in the phone at many places (Internet config, email config, Java Apps Config, Widget Config, Media Player config and so on) I was able to get it working. Also, try switching the connection preferences in your 3G data card so that you could fix it with EDGE/GPRS or UMTS/HSDPA instead of automatic. Note that, most data card software are buggy.

    2. Speeds might improve at a later point of time. For e.g., in my area in Bangalore, I got max speed of 240 Kbps initially. One fine day, it started showing more than 1Mbps and continued to do so for a week. It switched back to 240kbps later but again started showing up 1Mbps+ for the past 2 months. So BSNL might be trying to do something based on customer complaints. So don't give up!!!

    3. It might help if you find a place in your house that has maximum signal strength. Buildings with lot of metal could sometimes weaken signal.

yes.. if there are too many cables that can also make the signals weaker.. its my personal experience with a data card..
