Default BSNL 3G Data Card Disconnection Issues - Solution!

The BSNL 3G data card card gives blazing fast speeds but comes with a downside...It gets disconnected frequently! This way you cannot fire and forget your downloads. It may get disconnected as soon as it see's your back.

There is workaround for this problem. That is to use windows dial-up.

This works for me and should work for you, still DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!. I dont take any responsibilty of something going wrong to your system.

    1) I assume that you have installed the bundled software inside the USB 3G data card and you can connect the 3G internet form it AND the device is connected to the system.

    2) Open Device Manager. The "HSPADataCard USB Modem" should be listed there. Right click to open properties. In the open window choose the "Advanced" tab. In the 'extra initialization commands:' enter at+cgdcont=1,"IP","bsnlnet". click OK to close the window.
    image:
    Find attached images

    3) From Control Panel open "Network and Sharing Center". From the left hand pane click "Change Adapter Settings". You should see a dial-up connection for your 3G Modem.Right click and choose properties. Select the "General" Tab. In the Phone Number box enter *99# Create a shortcut to the dial-up connection on your desktop. (If not you will have to create Dial-up connection in "Network and Sharing Center". See bottom of the post)

    image:
    Find attached images

    4) Select the "Options" tab make changes as follows :

    Check "Display progress while connecting"
    Uncheck all others.
    Enter "Redial attempts" 99
Enter "Time between redial attempts" 1 Second
Enter "Idle time before hanging "never"

Check "Redial if line is dropped"

    Click OK
    image:
    Find attached images

    DONE!
Right Click the dial-up connection and click "Connect"
Your internet should be running now.

Now windows automatically attempts to connects to the modem if line is dropped.

Note: Dont connect through your BSNL software! It should stay running in the background. you may minimize it to sys tray.

[To Create Dial-up connection open "Network and Sharing Center". Click "Setup a new connection or network". Click next. Follow the instructions. Enter phone no as *99# when prompted. Leave username and password blank when prompted.]

Disconnections can also be avoided by using auto-reconnect feature in most of the download managers...

Dont think it has anything to do with browsing.
It keeps the connection alive which should allow you to download and browse simultaneously.

Pls look for other issues. Try another browser or try limiting the download manager speed.

Still the above settings are necessary.

It also works when you are not downloading...just browsing or any other net related task.

This is done in windows 7 itself.

Question Works on two net connections ?

    Hi

I use bsnl 3g connection alternating with another connection.
Will it affect my other connection if I make the above settings suggested by fulsunder ?
I need to use both the connections alternatively, may need to change any time whilst still working.

    Default BSNL 3G Issues

Planning to buy BSNL 3G, here are few tips.

First and Foremost check whether you are having the 3G singal from where you will access the internet. Get your friends 3G sim and check the signal strength from ur access point. If there is atleast 3 bars you are done. Else the flow chart stops here.

Now you can proceed buying the 3G datacard. Install it start using that.

Now the issues get to roll on.....

Issue No# 1 : internet gets disconnected very often.

check the signal strength, if thats really bad use and USB extender and put the USB dongle out of the window. thats what i am doing right away, it really works :-)

    Install the patch from Microsoft
Install the microsoft hotfix patch number KB925681
    techportal.in/2010/05/bsnl-3g-disconnect-automatically.html

    Issue No# 2 : Payment Mode

Yes, u can recharge online, Here is the link
    portal.bsnl.in/rc/aspxfiles/3GRechargeSelect.aspx

    happy browsing,,

I have done this since long before, infact, advised by BSNL Tech Guy..it still gets disconnected..but it re-dials though. However, after about 5-6 such disconnections and re-dials..it stops connecting and goes on re-dialing for on and on and on until I take out the USB and plug it in again....Any solution ????

    hii there.........

Thanks to fulsunder for the settings. they are doing a lot of good to me. but there is one issue that keeps bugging me. Everytime I restart my system. the settings of modem changes i.e redial if line is dropped becomes unchecked. Any solutions. Everytime I reboot i have to check for that particular setting.

I contacted BSNL local customer care center in this regards and they confirmed that it's a device issue. They have lots of complains about this issue. The officer said that BSNL is in contact with Teracom to fix the issue and expecting to be resolved within a week or two.

I am facing this issue on Windows as well as Linux so clearly it's not software issue but might be issue in firmware of may be in hardware design itself. If it's firmware issue then Teracom will release new firmware soon else they should have to replace the devices.

Please contact your nearest BSNL customer care center and complain about the issue to speed up the process.

i'm facing frequent discn in bangalore. this disconection is because of the message they send... i mean for every 10-15mins they ll send a msg from +50030 saying u have used so uch kbytes etc etc..

sometime if u dont use internet, then they ll send u have used 0.0kbytes... and if u send a sms they ll send u have sent an sms.. so if u send 100 sms a day then u ll receive 100 back from 50030... its so irritating.. and wenever u get this msg ur internet disconnects..

auto redial thing working fine but still even after paying 4200 UL paln we have to suffer from all these means what BSNL ppl are doing!!

    works fine...
when it disconnects it automatically reconnects.
It use full because while downloading premium links, we dont need to reconnect it to resume the link.

but downloading as a free user from premium site affects alot bcoz cant resume the download after reconnect.

    Uncheck all others.
    Enter "Redial attempts" 99

    DONE!
Right Click the dial-up connection and click "Connect"

In the Extra Initialization Commands textbox fill – “AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","bsnlsouth"” <without quotes>.Without this string the computer will not connect to the Internet, but it will throw a PPP Link error. Please note that the “bsnlsouth” mentioned above is the access point name in your GPRS connection settings of your phone. (or gprssouth.cellone.in)

    4) Select the "Options" tab make changes as follows :

    Check "Display progress while connecting"
    Uncheck all others.
    Enter "Redial attempts" 99
Enter "Time between redial attempts" 1 Second
Enter "Idle time before hanging "never"

Check "Redial if line is dropped"

    Click OK

Hey...thanks for the above information, but I am facing issues in getting the Advanced tab for the Properties Window.

I am working on Windows XP (Version 2002) SP2. Can you please help me in enabling this advanced tab ?

Also, I am facing issues as mentioned by "gonewiththeway"; post:12-15-10, 12:08 AM . As soon as the net connection is up (Connected using the BSNL default connection App), It displays a max speed of 120kbps acheived, but then the received speed goes back to 0kbps. Is there any fix for this issue ?

    H/w : BSNL 3G (3.6Mbps) with Modem (DataCard) Model No: LW272.

( Sorry for my technical goof ups )
Actually that I believe is because you need to create a separate connection for that. The Connection icon you have currently Selected to redial is the windows detected connection setup for your modem.
Create a similar one manually and you can see that the redial option stays open.

Also note that currently my observation my modem has made me realize that there is a chance that your connection gets dropped or sometimes the line does not drop but you cannot access the net when the Modem automatically switches from HSDPA to UMTS or whichever is available.
