#######THIS IS MY FIRST BSNL 3G SPEED TEST REPORTS, I WISH TO SHARE HERE.#######

The Device.......... : Sierra Aircard 306 ( 21Mbps Down Load speed and 5.76Mbps Upload speed ).
    Place...................: Chennai.
    Test report.......... : 19 to 27.10.10.
The tower............ : within 200 Meters.

Now in Chennai, I believe, 7.2Mbps is not enabled. I am getting nearly 3.52 to 3.6Mbps speed in Direct and Torrent downloads and 1.8 to 2.0Mbps in uploads

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ________________________

I bought this card from eBay India.

Though at that of time, there is no 21Mbps service, I bought this card of higher capacity, because higher capacity ( 21Mbps ) device will work smoothly without any strain for lower loads ( 7.2Mbps ) of data transfers.

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _________________________

    ..................................DIRECT DOWNLOAD 3.52Mbps CONSTANT ..................................

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________

    ................TORRENT DOWNLOAD 430 KBps to 440 KBps -- 3.52 Mbps to 3.6 Mbps ...................

..........Youtube upload @ 2.17Mbps but with equal " fall and rise " Don't know the reason ...........

This card can be squeezed for maximum speed (multiple downloads / uploads ) at any given time.

. A WORD OF CAUTION ABOUT THIS BIGPOND / SIERRA AC 306 (WHITE ) USB CARD .

    Hi Guys,

Though the BSNL 3G speeds and tariff are attractive and affordable, when bench marking this card for prolonged time, I have noticed heating issue with this particular Bigpond / Sierra AC 306 USB Modem white in color ( there are other cards with black and blue colors in the same model ).

I am communicating with Sierra company's technical support and they are responding quickly.I have to thank Mr.Jensen of their team. Because we all know what was the response from our own BSNL and Micromax regarding EVDO card.

ANYBODY DESIRING TO BUY THIS PARTICULAR CARD, PLEASE HOLD ON, UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS SOLVED. I WILL UPDATE THEN AND THERE.

I will post some more details of testing the temperature of the card, within today evening.

Seems heating is a commong problem with all data cards. Even my Huawei UMG181 modem gets really hot after using it for a while. I've noticed the same for almost all modems.

So I think its not a big problem.

...................................... MORE DETAILS ABOUT OVER HEAT ISSUES.................................

If we use the card for normal browsing or data downloading at a speed less than 2Mbps, it is impossible to judge the behavior of this ( or any other ) card, since no problem was noticed. I decided to test the Data card, for a prolonged time, at some maximum and constant speeds available.

Here only 3.6Mbps is available and hence I checked at that speed, keeping my download files as such, to reach maximum speed freely.

The working temperature allowed, as informed by the Sierra Technical support, is only a maximum of 75*C.

The first card I got, reaches to a maximum speed of 84*C after 47 minutes, and gets disconnected from network. After 1 or 2 minutes reconnected. Hence I returned the card and waited for another card.

Yesterday I got the second card . This card also reaches a maximum temperature of 82*C after 45 minutes and disconnects. Again I have written to Sierra Technical team and waiting for their reply.

The card emits more heat at the Red color marked rectangular area. I have measured the temperature at this area with the help of Digital Multimeter. The card is placed over a non-metal surface and kept the testing probe tip beneath the card and noted the temperature rising to the maximum.

I request other members, who are getting at least more than 3.0Mbps, if possible, to measure the maximum temperature it reaches ( a point after which no rise in temperature noticed or disconnects from network ). The details may be shared here, as Model no, Duration of testing, Maximum temperature attained before stand-still or disconnection nature.

The first reason offered by Sierra technical staff is

What is the signal strength when you are connected?

Low signal require more energy to transmit a clear signal to the cellular tower.

The Blade Antenna will help with the heat issue.
I have replied to them that I got good signal ( 4 out of 5 bars ) and the tower is within 200 meters from my home.

Now awaiting reply for this mail.

    __________________________________________________ ________________________________________

The good nature of this card is even upto 80*C the full speed never falls. The build and the look is good. Has connector for external antenna. We can add Micro SD card up to 32GB to use as a pen drive.

The minus point ( ? ) is, it will not work with 2G network as told by the seller. However, I have to confirm it.

Since more members are enquiring about this card's purchase through Private Messages and I have to repeat the same reply, I am giving the details of the purchase of this card here.

I bought this card for Rs.3750, from a Keralite seller through eBay India. After my thorough testing, the seller is convinced very much and offered to refund. But I requested him ( returning the card ) not to refund but to make some other card available. He is now trying to get Huawei K4505. As soon as he receives the supply, I will be getting one piece. He decided not to go further for this Bigpond card, any more.

I thought that particular piece may be a defective one. Hence, I tried with another seller here, locally from Chennai. He is able to get one piece ( second card ) exclusively for me. But both the cards reached 82 / 84*C with consistent 3.5Mbps speed and disconnects itself immediately due to overheat. Now he is also trying to get some other models.

Except this heating issue it is a fantastic card. But heating and Disconnecting is a vital problem, we have to consider. So until this issue is addressed, it is better to think twice for purchasing this model.

I can use this card by attaching some cooling method. But it will not be a universal solution particularly for roaming.

So, my request is to wait for sometime until YOU / WE are able to get a good 21Mbps card.

    __________________________________________________ ___________________________

For any purchase from eBay INDIA, your amount will be transferred to the seller, only after you confirm your delivery with a satisfied piece. Otherwise, the amount will be refunded to you, which is a good practice.

But, if you go for other sites like alibaba.com you should be careful TWICE. You can get any model of the card in the world, from China. But you can not ascertain who is the genuine seller. Only regular buyers will know the real story.

I have read from the alibaba's forum itself, that some addresses in the seller's list lead to Public parks. So we must be careful, being a retail buyer. But they are offering another ( safe ? ) listings in Aliexpress.

In aliexpress your payment is transferred to the seller - like in eBay India - only after you confirm the satisfied delivery of the product. But I have not tried anything from these alibaba and aliexpress sites.

    Really Great share ramli.

Whats is the best and in budget 3g card available in the local market 7mbps download and 2+mbps upload?

Heaven plzzz contact CSC and tell this, bcoz 3G has no fair usage policy. so no need to show data usage remaining so go to CSC and register a complaint or Enquire.

Though I have not tested, my suggestion will be Huawei E 1752, presently available in eBay.in

Since E1750 is also having the same specification, you can avail it from Kerala itself through ( my 21Mbps seller ) Mr.Abey joseph. (Since I am not sure, whether I can give the address here ) whose address will be sent to you through PM.

Few more details about temperature measuring.......

Regarding measuring temperature, don't buy Digital thermometer. It will show only up to 110*F (43.33*c) after that it won't show any reading except " HI ", because above that temp. we have to hurry to Doctor !!

Next gadget is measuring room temperature, which will be placed in our drawing room. It will measure a maximum of 56*C ( above that we will not be inside the room !!).

I have tested with above two gadgets and found no use.

Already I have 2 Digital meters, of which one is capable of temperature measurement. But since that was at repair at that time, I bought another new Digital MMeter. I have to benchmark the card urgently and if found any fault, have to return it immediately.

So, only option is Digital Multimeter which will measure more than 1000*C. But will be used only by Technicians. It will cost above 1200 according to the models. ( If anybody come across less-cost devices can share the details here )

So you have to approach some technicians if you are not having one.

    E1550 ------3.6Mbps DL / 384Kbps UL
    E122 -------7.2Mbps DL / 2.0Mbps UL

That's why I have suggested E1750, E1752 and UMG181 which are all 7.2Mbps DL / 5.76Mbps UL compatible, if not interested in 21Mbps and 42Mbps cards.

Though I am, a Ritchie street regular buyer from 1969, for the past 2 Years I have kept in hold my hardware assembly / service activities. Hence not visiting Ritchie street regularly. However tomorrow, will try to visit there and let you know the available cards.

The second 21Mbps card, ( read above my review ) I bought from one individual seller from thousand light and waiting for replacement with some other brand. Afterward only, I can judge his transaction.

Regarding Kerala seller, I have replied to your PM.

thank you ramli7 for fast response pls lets us know the prices and thanks in advance

I think huawei modems are better than micromax modems..
and as of now those who have low budget the best choice is hauwei 1550(cheap and best) and sufficient for some time.

21 mbps(future proof) is good choice only if dont mind spending more than 3.5 k but surely it will not be any use for atleast one year because i dont think we will get anything above 7.2 mbps in the near future..also the modem prices will reduce in the comin years just like mobile phones..so I think the best option is to buy a 7.2 mbps modem now..
these are only my personal opinions.

    Ramli7,
I am wondering what you will be doing with 2 data cards...?

I have also ordered E1750 from Ebay. Looking forward to get it.
But now my BSNL 3G card LW273 also is working fine... (but this was my 3rd card after 2 replacements) But BSNL Guindy CSC was very helpful..

Mainly micromax are having poor support in their website.

    E1550 also has pathetic 3.6Mbps DL / 384Kbps UL support. For a few more hundreds ( @ 500 ) you are getting excellent 7.2Mbps DL / 5.76Mbps UL. Which is better ?

21 mbps(future proof) is good choice only if don't mind spending more than 3.5 k but surely it will not be any use for at least one year because I don't think we will get anything above 7.2 Mbps in the near future.
My first 21Mbps card is Rs.3750 and the second one Rs.3500. Already DOCOMO has started 21Mbps at least in parts of the country.

I am wondering what you will be doing with 2 data cards...?
Though I have answered to this question to some of our members in PMs ..........

The first card was returned due to overheat and doubted that particular piece may be a defective one. Hence I bought second card, which also exhibited the same fault and confirmed that this model is having that snag. Even Sierra technical staff were unable to solve this issue, after some initial suggestions.

If I get a good another make 21Mbps card, from any one of the seller, I will purchase one Wireless router with 3G USB support from the other seller to adjust the amount.

"so I think the best option is to buy a 7.2 mbps modem now.". this is what i stated last .I agree docomo has started 21mbps (docomo dont have 3g license in tn sadly. only airtel vf aircel) but i dont think it will be unlimited i read somewhere it is 15gb fup and also a very high charge.. have to wait and see what brand modems are they offering and if they are unlockable too.waiting eagerly about the modem prices from you bro hope you give it tomorrow.. mainly e122 e1750 i believe it will be cheaper in chennai ritchie than ebay but i dont know if i am correct.

    Hello ramli7,
I think you should get a Huawei E182E 3G modem. It provides down link speeds of up to 21Mbps and up link speeds of up to 5.76 Mbps. It has quadband 3G support as well as quadband 2G support. So it can work anywhere in the world. Inform me if you are able to find it in stores or online. Same to all the members of this thread.

Yes I use my Huawei EC321 modem for several hours of downloading. No overheating issues. I think Huawei modems are trustworthy.
