20-25gb is not a big deal coz its only 6 dvd size mate.
i downloaded about 60-80gb/month in bsnl wimax.
Many users are downloading more than 50gb+ / month.

when i am on unlimited 192kbps plan 5 years back i download about 1gb/month.
by calculating the data in a 6mbps speed 25gb is not a big deal.

and remember that there is no FUP attachment on 3g when i recharge for 4200, then what the hell is this, now i am think that staying in wimax is a good, my bad luck when i took 3g i disconnect wimax

    Junior !
Have you tried the Ipad strategy?
Ramli also mentioned that he has already cut out an adapter to fit the microsim in to the data card! may be BSNL will find out this loophole in a few months . But worth a try!
Anyone recently got a bsnl 3g sim Rs 59+new data FRC 53? (1+1 gb free for 2 months)- Good cheap strategy only for 3g phone use for email, twitter, facebook ,check train reservation etc instead of GPRS.!
    (I mean new 3g schemes after feb18th)

    Chennai,Triplicane.
    Anyone getting above 5Mbps ?

I just checked as some body gave link -http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/3G/3G_files/3g.htm

It seems FRC 53-( 1gb free for 2 months is applicable only along with BSNL data card purchase. otherwise FRC 120 must with only 3g sim purchase.)
I got a scare about " no more data free roaming" as I am a heavy traveller as my name suggests. It is still free as per my understanding.

Even in the old Rs 4200/6 months UL running subscribers- BSNL reducing speed for heavy downloaders? - (Iam just assuming from Athular -Trivandrum's observation.
Iam in th same boat (till May end) .

But my usual usage per day is 300-500mb (running live futures Exchange data for 9 hours during night + few hours blog browsing during day+occasional Educational u tube+ US Bloomberg radio/Bloomberg TV/CNBC TV for 30 min max at a stretch just to catch any special news etc.

I rather keep my speed than download too much.still getting 3.5mbps.

I dont down load music or movies.Have not used dl manager/torrents etc.
In chennai you get all popular USA/UK tv serials and Hollywood movies rather cheap!

Occassionaly listen to Arabic/samba/salsa/opera/Mariachi/Merengue/Country Western Music in online radio stations to change moods!

Any other heavy downloaders in existing scheme feel speed throttled?

    Hi Athul,

From your MDMA, it is clear that the connected tower at present shows only 1Mbps against previous higher level.

For 3G, as per their claim, minimum the tower should be 3.6Mbps enabled. But in your case very sad thing.

In MDMA top right corner it shows HSD(PA) + (HS)UPA. Why can't you meet some higher official in your BSNL office and ask his explanation.

Ask him to explain what is 3G , HSDPA and HSUPA. Pull him to settle the issue. Or they render free service to the customers ?

For me from the start of the day, for the last five months it is constant 3.6Mbps, till this day.

    Even EV-DO has 2.8 / 3.1Mbps connectivity !!

as far as i no the negotiated qos shows the imsi profile regstrd in the hlr... it clearly shows they hav capped the particular no to 1mbps dwn/ 512 kbps up... its not that the tower is capable of that only..

If so is his case, then they might have informed / warned him with relevant reasons for capping.

After all, any / particular plan speed is common to all consumers of that specific plan and not to be curtailed / tailored for individuals !!

My bsnl 3G speed limited to 1 mbps, while downloading graphs shows a straight line(1 mbps). currently I'm in 2500 plan(3 month unlimited). Browsing was horrible now downloading speed capped to 1 Mbps. Bsnl giving worst service.

Can you tell, what is the assigned profile or negotiated qos in MDMA for your connection ( as shown in ATHUL's post )?

Thanks for the reply. It is a strange thing, whether it is tower's capacity or individual's capped profile.

Certainly the case to be discussed with BSNL official.

Assigned with 3.6mbps profile but getting 1mbps speed is different from this MDMA screen shots of both of you!! You are assigned 1mbps only. Why ?

Till now, in Chennai MDMA assigned profile / negotiated QOS is 3.6 Mbps D'link and 1.8 Mbps U'link.

Download speeds between 2.0Mbps to 3.5Mbps. But browsing not improved.

Its official. Hyderabad is now capped at 1Mbps. All those who aren't cable to connect and get error 619 you have to call the customer care and ask them to reset your PS network which should be done in 10 minutes. You will be able to connect now and welcome to the 1Mbps.

I wonder how justified it is to advertise speeds of 3.6Mbps and have 6 months unlimited plans and then 4 months into the plan you cap it at a ridiculous 1Mbps

Cool Yes BSNL 3g in chennai 2nd day speed capped @1MBpS!

Till Friday morning I had 3.77 MBPS and was not less than 2 Mbps till last Friday night.
Yesterday (Saturday morning)when I saw exact 1 Mbps speed I thought may be week end heavy traffic.
Today early morning as well now @10am speed shows exact 1 Mbps.
    so
1.eiether all over chennai speed cap for old 4200 UL customers
2.Triplicane tower only (not so another person in chennai reporting)
    3.Iam capped ? Iam not a heavy downloader.max download 300-500mb only daily.But 10 hours switched on continously.

Well if 1MBs always means 2G un limited-Rs 700/ month for the balance period.

I think After Feb 18- may be all existing UnLimited subscribers capped till their old subscription expires.
New renewals Rs 1500/15 Gb/Rs 3000/30 Gb may be given full relevant tower capacity.
Good job BSNL! Bait and switch !!!!!

I am getting an exact 1Mbps too.

Is there anyway they can cap individual numbers ? I don't think so. And yes, I think till the Unlimited expires its gonna be 1Mbps.

@ulysses : Are those speeds from Hyderabad or Chennai ?

Wink Speed may not be capped for new prepaid/post paid subscribers!

Ramli-If Iam not mistaken you are now under new plan (1 month Rs1399/15gb post paid).
After Feb18 new plans-This capping @1Mbps for the old (Rs4200/6 months) customers for the remaining period in their subscription may not apply to you as you are on new meter and not a free loader (in BSNL's view) like the rest of us!!

1Mbs capped speed in chennai from Saturday morning. It was above 3 Mbps till Friday evening.
Secunderabad last week end I could never get above 1 to 1.2 Mbps at my home.
I would like a report from upcountry Tamilnadu towns like Trichy/Madurai/Erode/Nagercoil.
2 weeks ago I had blazing speeds at Srirangam & Trichy better than chennai even!
Earlier I used it only for business -max 300 to 500 mb/day.
Now that speed has been capped I am going all out 24X7 to watch Google TV,Bloomberg,U tube ,on line radio etc. what the hell I did not download 100+GB like others did!

Yes I am getting even today above 3Mbps speed.

My plan from 18th is regular 1359 unlimited. Thanks for watching me so closely.

Tomorrow I will meet the CSC people to confirm whether the 15gb limit is for new 1359 customers or inclusive of existing customers. Any change in my plan should be either applied by me or should have informed by BSNL to the individuals. Let me see what they are replying tomorrow.

If it happens to me also, I will wind up this BSNL connection immediately.

Now, I am testing with Aircel 3G connection. They are offering 1275 Unlimited ( Data only ) plan.

My waiting list includes back to EV-DO and ipad 999 plan.

if you got reply from them plzzz post here.

If they limit speed for 1/3 , then we need extended validity of 6x3 means 18months. am i telling the truth, its a consumers right to ask. at least we need 6x2=12months validity coz they limit from 3.2mbps to 1mbps means speed is divided by 3 then we need multiplying our current validity by 3. or give back our speed.

Complete rip off. BSNL has to extend validity period or give back speed. I can't understand why people have resigned themselves to accept this outright cheating. Do we have a legal case ? What about consumer court ? Can we not get redressal ? Have we missed the small print in the contract ?

hi, i have 2 bsnl 3g sims , on 1 sim 6 months unlimited plan is activated and on the other no data plan is activated only i have main balance .

when i connect with the sim where unlimited plan is activated i am getting less speed below < 1 mbps. But when i connect with the other sim ( where no data plan is activated ) i am getting 5 -6 mbps. Main balance is deducting from that sim ( data charges 1 paise for 10 kb)
note: browsing issue is not solved in this sim too.

i think bsnl have capped speeds only for unlimited plans.

I was so disgusted from BSNL customer service from Day 1 that I wrote here on Jan 14th -2011-that I have to go to temple and pray as I can not get any answer from them whether I go to CSC or call 1-800-suck! No body has any info on your a/c.
    Some remote computer has answers.
No customer service staff can access and tell you.
I have written them off.Rs 4200 as charity.
First and last visit to BSNL CSC was the day I bought the sim and did Rs 4200 re charge.
Thank God I did not buy BSNL's crap modem.
Yes it was cheap like cheap food from street vendor. Now they have shown their true colour. Trying to sell street food at the price of 3star hotel.

    Anyway
1.evening to late night slow speed due to too many subscribers (my work hours ) &
    2.generally poor browsing and
3.intermittant on/off when I need constantly streaming exchange data ----means they are not dependable as a main provider for me.
Having said that -I have to extend some kind of smaller data pack with a BSNL retailer after June end (end of my 6 months U/L)as they are the only player in town in small town coverage all over India -I travel a lot.

The same way Iam keeping my tata photon data card alive with
Rs 250/250mb/30 days validity (carry forward balance) for emergencies .

    As of current schemes-
Iam willing to spend eiether 13G GB- Rs 2000 with Airtel if their speed is good
    .
Iam hoping Aircel,Reliance,Idea give in a couple of months some reasonable data plans (No we dont want UL)
Min 2 mbs /max 3-5 mbps, good browsing experience and constant streaming internet.

Then my Rs 1500-2000/month/for 10 to 15 Gb will go to them and not to BSNL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Iam on 6 month valid UL pack and they bombard 4 to 5 times a day "you have used so many KB's !" what the hell I care.!
Not once from BSNL I got an sms "your data pack expires on such and such date!" Only sms I have is "your Rs 4200 re charge successful with out mentioning expiry date" on the day I recharged.
On the other hand from Tata I get sms every day once @7.59pm that I have so many MB left in my data pack and expiry date.
But you can not log in Tata site that easily and has out dated info.but You can call them free and get things done over phone.
Just a comparison of Front End systems they have in place.
Tata photon still taking in new victims for Rs 1200/10 GB for their 2G by reducing the price of modem. But 2GB with all 2g players still costs min Rs 700. That is a nice racket they all have !!
I wait for reports from all of you for viable alternative to BSNL 3g. Quality not Quantity ( quantity was BSNL's only Trump card and they blew it)

Now you know why it was a long rant!!

    Hi, ATHUL4R , ulysses

Just now returned from BSNL CSC Kodambakkam. Contacted CRO (Cust.Reln.Offr) regarding 1359 Unlimited plan.

She said that existing 1359 Unlimited consumers will not be affected by the GB limit. It is only for new customers, she said. But I want to confirm it with authentication. She dialed to various other officials. Nobody has clear ideas.

This CRO told me it is the normal practice to continue with the same status for the existing customers, when ever plans are changed / revised. It is followed in LLine BB connections also.

However she got my contact no and assured me to reply after confirmation from higher officials.

Then I have asked for ipad Microsim. She said, there is a problem (bug) in the SW for activating ipad sim. Within today or tomorrow it will be solved and afterward, sim will be available for us to try.

If one gate is closed, other gates are to be opened. As Aircel has announced 1275 unlimited data plan, we can try that one. Already for the free offer of 250 MB ( I am testing ), the speed is between 1 to 3.2Mbps with nice browsing speed. You can view the Aircel screenshot here in post # 7.....

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/aircel...aircel-3g.html

My present BSNL 3g speed upto 3Mbps and the browsing has not improved.

    Default BSNL 3g Rs 1359/Rs 1500 1month plan suscribed between 30th jan-Feb17

    Ramli
    Thanks for your report.
In BSNL landline ADSL broadband local exchange officials are in the know and decide many things.
But in 3G wireless -all CSC staff +officers have no up to date information. So I will not take their words as final. You will find out in next months bill and if they charge above 15GB-then give them Hell !
when I got 3 g sim last jan and the same day when it debited up to Rs 100 for 3g usage.Everybody in CSC /1-800 cus serv had various stories-yes & No 7 days free,Yes 1 gb free for 2 motnhs etc etc.
Use more than 15 Gb this billing cycle so that you can force the issue next month as general browsing in BSNL 3g is worse than Tata photon 2g @1 Mbps !
Ipad sim idea looks good but it may be useful for short term only-also they may lock the speed for Rs999 Ipad UL customers at 1 or 1.5 Mbps !!!
They have done once.So anything UL from BSNL is suspect from now on speed wise!!! You can not argue as 3Mbps + is max speed not min speed.
I will go to spencers plaza aircel office & get a new prepaid aircell 3g sim +activation and try with out using my existing long term aircel voice no.

    Default We are not alone

    Not exactly relevant, but interesting.
Check this: BBC News - Ofcom wants to ban misleading broadband speed ads
Seems to be a worldwide phenomenon.

@Sumanth: Thanks for the link. Will send complaint across once I get back.

The real story is not maintenance or upgradation.

Since the CSC at Kodambakkam branch are still in unsure about GB limit for existing 1359 unlimited customers, I went and contacted another higher official at Mandhaveli branch ( somewhat like HQ ) and spent nearly an hour with him. He tried his best, consulting various colleagues but failed get a solid answer.

After my raising the question, he said mostly existing customers will not be affected upto a period of six months. But wanted to ascertain the actual position from others. It is also ( in addition to me ) important to them for preparing the bills for this month. The real story to be reflected in the bill.

So, now he is more serious to get the confirmed reply to my question and asked me to wait for a day to solve the issue.

At that time I have discussed with him about capping speed, slow speed and browsing problem; he said " around 1100 plus unlimited consumers have been identified, whose inordinate grabbing the full bandwidth caused choking of our network. And this has resulted in normal users, unable to carry out their regular simple works !! So our technical staff are trying to sort out the issues ".

He was very much wondering, to say that a single guy has crossed the volume to 1.7 TB or so..

Another information regarding ipad microsim. If we want ipad microsim, we have to show them the ipad ( to which it is applied for usage ) and they will lock the IMEI no of ipad with your account. So I have withdrawn my application for ipad, sine I am not having ipad. That offer can not be availed.

Though I am with free trial of Aircel's 250MB, I will book for 1275 unlimited plan tomorrow or day after, after getting reply from BSNL.

How does it matter if a user used 1.7TB or 17TB. Unlimited is what it is -- Unlimited !! Its not like they are giving unlimited speeds. The speeds have a limit and within those limits a user may wish to use the services as he or she pleases to. Can't they understand that ?

1.7 TB It is an example of misusing a service. These people take as much as they can & they don't care about the others.

    Cool Cool Sumanth.

Yes, on the other hand that gentleman accepted what you said.

He said " I can't blame consumers. It's a mistake on our part. What are we doing now, had to be done earlier on our part. We might have done the home work, before rolling out something. (In BSNL)One group decides another or more other groups face the problems. That will become a long story. " (Actual words are different. I have put the contents of what he said / felt, when he discussed the issue in a friendly manner. )

@varunraj its not misusing a service. One person can download as much as he/ she wants since the plan is made available in that way by the service provider. If one user does not download its his choice. have a look at the telecom providers in other countries compare their speed their service & their value for money plans with ours In india we consumers are always at the recieving end.

BSNL is purely cheating us.. thats the fact. They will say these things that one usr downloads average 700 gb / month & such crap so they have issues with continuing 3g unlimited. They wont tell u that they know users will download so much in unlimited 3g. BSNL already knew before the plan was launched they can do the foresight calculations. but still they introduced 3g unlimited only for the sole purpose to lure customers to get them hooked and once u get into the postpaid buy the data cards.. then BAM change the plan.

some of you are very lucky that you knew abt the plan change, i never got any message or intimation from bsnl until i got this message on the 5th of this month :

"U have crossed THS Limit of Rs 2000 . Plz contact CSR to avoid disconnection. Ignore if paid in advance. Ur Current usage is Rs 7252"

Today i went to my local circle office (kamrup) and when i asked them why they did not intimate me they said that they cam to know abt this only on friday. Nobody had any idea whether existing users will be allowed to continue under the joining conditions applicable at the time. One official asked me the wait and watch for the bill to be generated on the 10th. If i m billed i will sue BSNL. If i m not billed for over usage but my plan is changed even then i plan to sue & do everything legally to get my due.

I bought the 3g dongle purely for unlimited plan, second i did not see in any fine print that the unlimited plan is a promotional offer valid for 6 mnths. its not in the agreement i signed. third the speed is not 3g. Fourth, plan was withdrawn in feb i came to know in march.

Let the 10th come, eagerly waiting.

To all the shitty telecom operators u dirty scumbags.. F****** up your a***

    @raz00rx

You have raised almost all the relevant points. Only today I have received my bill. But since I have not downloaded much, nothing is reflected in the bill.

But, still I am fighting with BSNL CSC to give me confirmed reply, whether I was in limited category or unlimited category. Unofficially one official has told me that I must be allowed 6 months time when the plan is changed or withdrawn. However he is buying some time before committing any reply to me.

However, tomorrow I will put my objection / question in writing to the CSC people, to keep in records.

    Have you read this thread....

    Default Shocker 56k bill

    Guys, you won't believe this:

    I paid 4200 / 6Months under Festive Promo for 3G.

    Today I received TWO bills.

One, for the billing period: 01/02/2011 to 28/02/2011

    Billed amount: 211 Rs.

Second: INTERIM BILL arrived by Speed Post (registered).

    Billing Period: 01/03/2011 to 07/03/2011

    Amount: 45670 Rs.

    --- According to my own stats, I had downloaded 10 GB data/uploaded 10.5 GB = Total, 20 GB. ---

I think I was put under regular 1359 GB monthly plan and after the 15 GB limit came into effect, I am billed accordingly according to MB usage and therefore this bill.

I am going to write to the Accounts Officer right now and raise hell. This is insult over injury.

True, there must be a maximum bill amount or automatic dip of speed when it crosses a limit. By this way, they will at least stop sending huge bill. I am victim of BSNL's huge billing and hence in an unlimited plan.

    Nothing to worry.

Yesterday I was in BSNL office making complaint in writing regarding GB limit for existing consumers ( whether they are regular 1359 unlimited or promotional offer of 2000 / 2500/ 4200 ).

At that time one 1359 existing consumer who has received bill for 3 lakh plus also came and submitted complaint along with me. They are collectig all complaints and forwarding to their head office through FAX.

One issue is on the billing side and another is on the decision making side. The customer Relation Officer has told me that the issue will be sorted shortly. And asked everybody to submit it in writing.

I am in a hurry to go outside. I will continue tonight.

Angry Again BSNL 3G speed limited and now the speed is 512 kbps !!!

It's not even 1 mbps now. It's down to 512 kbps since yesterday, less than 1/7th of what we signed up for . Have a look at the MDMA data...

    Negotiated QOS
    Uplink: 256 kbps
    Downlink: 512 kbps
