Default BSNL 3G speed in 2G sim???

    Folks,

I am quite satisfied/happy/elated/perplexed with my BSNL connection.

I am using BSNL sim in Micromax Datacard. It's a 2G sim. So i generally used to recharge it for 270/10GB/1 month validity.

Yesterday , I was just fiddling with my Datacard trying out all the settings using the Design of Experiments concept where we Keep one variable constant & change other variable for Optimisation.

As u guys know 2G Bsnl speed isdamn pathetic..Its like u can go to ur loo & come back for the gmail to open & it will suhhest u to open in HTML page like..

ANyways coming to the story, I tried the setting Manual with HSPA ( for 3G) in the datacard.

It took a while to search the network & got one bar out of 5 bars in the signal zone notification area.

Then u shuld see my face...wow.. i was all on my floors!!

I am getting speeds of 2.2 MbPS.. Ihave downloaded Dookudu a recent telugu flick of 700 MB in less than 90 minutes....

U guys have any such experiences?? Till now no capping has occured.. and I have downloaded 6 movies with in a span 7 hours each of 700 Mb....

    Feeling quite Luckily .....

Actually wat I believe is that bsnl randomly gives 3g speed on 2g users so that user shud know wat 3g is all about, just for trial like vodafone did.It sometimes work on old 2g sim or new 3g sim, it's all random but one thing sure that it's not a lifetime luck, next day u will wake to see ur speed capped

does anyone agree with me on this?

i dont think they do it deliberately , the system should automatically cap speed of 2g plan in 3g network. being a bsnl system i dont think it does it instantly, till then the user can enjoy 3g speeds.

Well dude i know that .... i have been using the same trick for more them 7-8 month's ..... the problem with bsnl is that ..... they use same chanel for 2g and 3g services's if u manually select the type of network u want to connect bsnl has no in buid barrier for restraning between there 2g and 3g subscriber's ..... and BSNL ppl know this thing that a lot of coustomer's do this ...... and yet they turn a blind eye

You can do this any where in INDIA

YA anurag it is very simple ..... put your BSNL sim in ur datacard ( what every company it may be ) ..... then before connecting ..... go to Tool's-> options/setting's -> network management/networktype ( depending upon ur connecton manager software) there you will find various option's some are listed below

    1) if u r using MOBILE PARTNER you will see only 2 option's ---- GSM ( only & prefered) ---- WCDMA ( only & prefered) now here GSM mean's old type 2G ( GPRS,EDGE) if u select "GSM ONLY" you will ce connected to 2G network .... the MAGIC is in the other one ....... "WCDMA ONLY" this is the real thing THE 3G (UNTS,HSPA)if u select "WCDMA ONLY" in BSNL SIM ..... no mater what data packege u r subscribed to NOW U WILL BE CONNECTED ONLY TO 3G NETWORK ......THUS U CAN ENJOY THE FULL FEATURES OF 3G IN THE PRICE OF 2G

    2) For software's other then MOBILE PARTNER ..... use (UMTS,HSPA) option from the network management tab

the bottom line is use "UMTS,HSPA" in place of "GPRS,EDGE"

NOTE:- THIS TRICK ONLY WORK'S ON BSNL

Try it ...... if u face any problem just let me know
