Default Settings not staying on UT300R2U

Hello, I am trying to set my own DNS server address on the UT3003R2U modem, but the settings are erased if the modem is switched off.

Is there any way to make the settings 'stay'?

After changing any setting, you should click SAVE Reboot and wait at least for two or three minnutes.
    Presume same similar page :

    Yes, I did that.

But the next time I switch off my modem and switch it on, the settings are all messed up. It doesn't even remember the changed passwords!

1.There are two models of UTstar 300R2U
2.Did the DNS entries also got erased ?
3.Post screenshot of Device status page.
4.and post screenshot of the WAN page where you entered ID and password.
    5. Confirm you are using "Dialer" ("bridged") to connect to Internet or
    "Always On "PPP/PPPoE mode.

I did not enter username and password anywhere...it was in 'always on' mode ever since I got it.

    5. Always On mode

P.S: I am not able to post 'direct' image links...since I have not yet made 15 posts.

Problem :Settings not saved in Modem.
    @manishk
I just thought some one else will take up the thread for some other ideas.
Once the thread disappears from first or 2nd page,
    I cannot remember. sorry.
Any other posting in any thread by others, in which I had said something , I immediately get an alert in my email.
Reg DNS : see this for settings. or check obtain DNS automatically.
    http://i23.tinypic.com/oidiro.jpg
Also in TCP/IP properties enter the same DNS.
    Suggestion 1 :
Please access the modem settings page WAN http://i23.tinypic.com/nlpdhs.jpg
( your picture at 4 above) and delete all other entries EXCEPT 0_35.
Save and Reboot . Wait for 2 or three minutes.
Suggestion 2. If still same problem,
    select EDIT
Uncheck PPPOE and select "Bridged" Save and reboot.
    In computer
    Start/All Programs/Accessories/Communications/Network connection Wizard.
    Create a dialer. give feedback.
    Para two :
Your modem is like Beetel 220BX series .
No problem for me as I have the same type for past two years.

    Para two:
    set my own DNS server
Are you trying for a website to be posted from your computer/modem ??

Suggestion 1 did not work, and I was thrown of the net till now!! After deleting all other mode (other than 0_35), and restaring...the whole settings were back again...!!

And I wont be able to follow Suggestion 2, as I am using Linux (Ubuntu).

I am just trying to set up OpenDNS (opendns.com)

I am not connected through USB.

Configuring in Ubuntu works...but I actually want to restrict access to anyone using the modem

I think the BSNL firmware may be creating the problem. Could that be??

possible.. mention your firmware version here.. if you are confident of configuring your router from scratch then you could try resetting your router

    Board ID: 96338L-2M-8M
    Software Version: 3.08.BSNL_02.01.02_tr64.
    Bootloader (CFE) Version: 1.0.37-8.7
    Firmware Version: UT300R2U.0011.01
    Hardware Version: UT300R2U 2.2
    Model Name: UT300R2U

I have reset the modem many times, the only problem I have after that is that the default gateway address doesn't get assigned automatically.

Actually my modem doesn't remember any settings after a power down.

    Problem :
my modem doesn't remember any settings
Modem: UTstar 300R2U new ( same as Beetel 220BX)
    REFERENCE:MyDataOne - UT Star 300R2U ADSL Modem/Router
...( click in black area if arrow not visible for slide show )
.... ( Thanks to cool_techie_tvm for renewing ref to this link )

Try the dialer mode.Only VPI/VCI 0 35 and "bridged" to be selected.
SAVE and Reboot. Wait for 2 or 3 minutes.
    Use dialer to connect.
    Check. ipconfig/all data.
You could have entered 192.168.1.10 subnet 255.255.255.0 and default 192.168.1.1
DNS use open dns 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222.

Did you see the link given in POST No 12.?
We are back to square one.
    1. Confirm the settings in modem are stable now
and you can connect to Internet in "AlwaysOn" mode.
2.You have problem in setting some DNS entries in modem for a web/dns server.
    ( port forwarding ? )
    3.

Dilaer for OS UBUNTU . I have no idea.

I went through the link, but my modem configuration page doesnt look like that. I dont have the wizard. As I have read in other threads, I have a 'stripped down' firmware from BSNL.

    1. I have reset it many times, earlier...not now! Now my settings are stable and I can connect in 'Always On' mode.

    2. Yes. I can set it but the settings never 'stay' everytime I power off, the settings go and the old settings dont come back on their own..so I am left offline Same with port forwarding...but atleast I can connect to the net even if the settings are erased.

    3. Thats ok.

So I guess the problem may be the firmware itself, may be its buggy!

Google just gave me this thread on a different forum:
    vinuthomas.com/Forums/viewtopic/p=90837.html

So, now its confirmed that the problem is in the firmware.

    Too bad.

I THINK YOUR RESET BUTTON ON MODEM IS FAULTY.......ITS ONLY POSSIBLE WITH RESET BUTTON TO CHANGE SETTINGS WITHOUT GOING TO SITE......SO DEAR CHECK THAT OR GO TO UR LOCAL EXCHANGE......ITS UNDER I YEAR WARRANTY.......SO WHY SO CONFUSED .IF UR MODEM IS OUT OF WARRANTY THEN REMOVE ITS COVER N REMOVE THE RESET BUTTON..DO IF U HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF HARDWARE'S OTHERWISE :nono:...............
