    Arrow Sharing BSNL connection..

Me and my friend are living in adjacent houses. He has a BSNL phoneline with an internet connection.I just want to have internet connection(i'm using mobile so no need of landline)Can we share a single internet connection .I am thinking that the phoneline coming from the telephone pole can be divided and taken to both our houses and then we both use separate modems,so that when ever i wanna connect i can connect..and same for him.Is there any way by which i can use it as a separate internet connection(i.e i dont wanna make any server computer thing.)

i.e i dont wanna make any server computer thing.)
you gonna need a /modem/wifi router to use with your mobile phone. ( * conditions apply) Mobile Phone Model No ?
seems you don't have BSNL L/L, or computer.
Test the set up in your friend's place and then shift to your house/flat.

i wanna use internet on my lappy not on my mobile.
see i have read many articles about sharing internet BB,they mention that you have to keep both the system "on" for sharing i.e. one has to be a proxy server...and the other is connected to it as a lan pc.That is what i dont want.
when i wanna use the internet ,i simply switch "on" my modem and use the internet...irrespective of my friend..if he is using the connection or not.

just use a broadband modem+ inbuilt router and youre done and you can add access point if wi-fi signal are very weak and configure your bsnl modem in PPPoE mode and you are ready to go

    @himan01
use the internet...irrespective of my friend.
.if he is using the connection or not.
Plan ONE : What you want .
Your idea basically workable. except 4.
    1.BSNL Telephone line ==adsl splitter =>modem1 friend's
2 Parallel telephone line Rj11 cable to @Himan01's house.
    Connects Adsl splitter ==>modem Port==>>Rj11==>>
modemLAN ==>> Rj45 laptop ethernet port.
3.Bonus: You can use his L/L telephone too !
4.You cannot get connection as and when you feel like. !
If your friend is already connected to internet. .

    Plan 2: modification to above
    Connect a RJ45 cable from (a 4 Port modem,)
    to your laptop's ethernet port.
He has to keep the modem/router on H24.
He can also use internet when he wants.
Or you position the 4port modem in your house.
    Para two:
Mention the modem/router models, you both use.

we are planning so ,we havent decided the modem..you can tell me the modem model that i should use.

i would prefer plan 1..cause we cannot keep a modem "on" for H24.
please give me an elaborated detail about plan 1.

Keeping the modem H24 . Because you wanted access any time.
Also when you select a U/L plan like Home 750 speed 256 Kbps not required.
    If you select Home 500 500c 0r 500C+ free d/l is unlimited during 0200AM to 0800 AM.
( free phone calls allowed also varies )
    bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm ( add http:// www.)
    I prefer Plan 2
An adsl modem+ 4portLanWifi routerfor laptop future use in any room .
    or a three in one.
see BSNL choices here for comparison.
    calcuttatelephones.com/dataoneinstall/menu.html
siemens sl2_141 or WG3002G4 ( almost similar FW).
In the market price wise Netgear/Dlink/Linksys/Buffalo etc.

Sharing internet connection between neighbours is illegal and is a crime punsihable by law. Also, the owner of the connection is responsible for all traffic from the connection - legal, illegal, etc.

Yes I agree with j4k. Sharing internet connection between neighbours is illegal and is a crime punsihable by law. My suggestion is if you do not want Landline, its OK.
    1. Go for GPRS option on your Mobile phone,
    2. BSNL Internet Connect card is available.
    3. EVDO service is also available in some cities.

I think that will serve your purpose.

I don't support any illegal activity, but is this really true?
that it is a crime punishable by law?

I would assume the worst case would be the ISP sues you
    and gets money.

what is the law say on this? do you have quotes or links?
I am not talking about stealing without the customers permission.
but if it is ok for me to give permission to my neighbor to
use something I paid for what is the problem? It's like I buy a
book and give to my neighbor to read.

I think it will better if you forget about the quotes or link. The above post is simply the reflaction of my thought which is like you are paying the money to get the service but you are not paying for providing the service to other.

OK then if it is just your opinion. The way you said it
it seemed that you were pretty sure there was an
actual legal law on the books.

Book is another issue. You purchage the book and give it to your friend, its alright, but you are not permitted to produce copies of the purchaged book and distribute to market. Here in BB service, this law is active. you can give your PC and BB service to your friend to use but you are not authorise to give a dedicated connection to him. At least I think so.

I don't have the exact law. But I know it is a very serious crime.
