Default Is BSNL restricting U/L plan users ???

I have U/L plan which is cheapest at Rs 750 .. the only disadvantage is that the d/l speeds are not higher than 30 kbps on a good day, lower if its during weekends and hoildays amd peak hours, ..
Has anyone else also realised the same ??

I strongly feel that BSNL have purposely RESTRICTED U/L plan holders from large and continous downloads as thay prefer to give bandwidth to the regular plans who have to PAY more per MB downloaded and so thay earn more revenue ... how can I prove this ? if any one has any ideas or suggestions I would appreciate the same .... as I intend to collect Data and file a complaint with the Consumer Forum against BSNL for misleading advertising and false promises !!
I myself get ridiculous speeds of less that 10 -15 kbps on a daily basis may be increasing to 25- 30 kbps towards late night, but I have NEVER seen speeds of even 50Kbps - and above
What I do see is an Intial spurt of 90+ Kbps which then steadily drops to a pathetic level os < 20 to 30 kbps

when BSNL CLAIMS say 250 kbps, I understand its not possible to get 250 kbps exactly but on a stated 250 kbps d/l speed at least 190 - 200 kbps should be ideally given .... not the DROP in speeds menttioned earlier
in fact I called ona BSNL official whose theory is as follows, if a bank has 500 crores (BANDWIDTH ) at its disposal it needs to distribute it accordingly to the value of the customer ( BSNL PLAN ) so we are not going to get all 500 crores at its disposal , but only what they see fit in terms of revenue generated ... This make it clear my theory that we are being restricted in order to provide higher bandwidth to higher plan holders that earn BSNL higher revenues .. does it make sense ??

By the way this offical also reads this forum and may very well be a member reading all our posts generated ...this is just Fyi
we need to band together and take on the Monopoly created by Bsnl and its "take or leave it attitude "

I hope to hear from this vast user Forum on this issue !! esp frm U/L plan holders

Test speed at speedtest.net say Mumbai server ,
    and post link here.
Mention your modem details. Can you try some changes
in modem and computer settings to try to improve speed ?

I posted this in another thread. I hope this will help you.

The speed of the 750 ul plan is 256 kilo bits(kb). And 256 kilo bits is equal to 32.KB(kilobytes).

    A bit is the
smallest piece of data (a 1 or a 0) that a computer recognizes. A byte is series of 8 bits.

    1024 bytes = 1 Kilo bytes
    1024 Kilo bytes = 1 Mega bytes
    1024 Mega bytes = 1 Giga bytes

    • Internet Service Providers mention speed in kilo bits to trick (confuse) people.
    • Download/Upload speed is really measured in Kilo bytes.
    • Kb/kb is kilobits (k and b or just b in small letter)
    • KB is Kilo bytes (K and B in capital letters)

    If you are getting 25 - 32 KB(kilobytes) its a good speed

I am new BSNL user as i moved cities.....have the UL1350 done...absolutely slow...i get around 50Kbps DL which should not be the case when they promise to give a bandwidth of 512Kbps...in this Plan...

I tried port forwarding as well....results are same...

Maybe you are expecting too much from BSNL.

The next big thing? 1 Mbps unlimited @ 2k per month. :|

There is no speed capping by BSNL. You get exactly what you are promised. Most people misunderstand speeds and quite natually too.

kbps in ISP terms means kilo bits per second and not kilo bytes per second. Downloads on computer are shown in kilo bytes per second. Hence the confusion.

    Lightbulb

u ppl better learn the difference between kb & kB..
    kb- kilo bits
    kB- kilo bytes.

    wat isp's claim as 256kbps, 512kbps & 1mbps are actually 32kB/s, 64kB/s & 128kB/s.. so when u have a home 750ul connection, u cant even go near speeds like 50kB/s.. ur max allocated bandwidth is only 32kB/s..

Default speed capping by BSNL. how so i prove it

There is definately speed capping by BSNL. You dont get exactly what you are promised. Most people misunderstand speeds becoz BSL is giving technical details and not in Layman's language and this is wrong on many parts .....

Quote "kbps in ISP terms means kilo bits per second and not kilo bytes per second. Downloads on computer are shown in kilo bytes per second. Hence the confusion."

see exactly why does my compt start at a spEEd of 90 kBps (90 kiloBytes) and then steadily drop to < 30 kBps ... i'm not talking Kilobits here I am talking kiloBytes ..so its definately +ive that the speeds are available but being capped/ restricted , my problem is how to record and show BSNL, I have D/L bandwidth meter , but it does not record my d/l speeds , just displays the same !!

if any one has any way to recording and storing say at least an hour of D/L speed display ,I could take up this issue !!__________________

Yes, BSNL is restricting the speed for UL user & they publish thid thing in their official website. So nothing can be done. If any one getting speed much lawer than that then he/she can go for complain. Also BSNL is providing 2mbps UL plan under busyness catagory with monthly rent 15000/-

thats rite..speed caping is there..last time when i walked to pay n the bill
i inquired politely about the speed issue, the receptionist said we have restrictions for UL user's. i asked what kinda restrictions? she said again
" restrictions" may be she knew only that word in English.

Is the speed caping really there?

I am planning to switch to BSNL and have heard about their high speed especially in the 500 plan where the users receive more than 1 Mbps in this plan on a regular basis.

But I am planning to take one 1350 UL and one 750 UL as I checked their leaflet yesterday and it is mentioned 512 Kbps to 2 Mbps and 256 Kbps to 2 Mbps in these two plans respectively.

So, are the UL plans being faked in their leaflets. I have it right here and both the UL plans mention upto 2 Mbps

I am thinking at taking one 1350 UL plus plan and one Home 500 plan. I am planning to take the 1350 UL for day downloads and normal works and 500 for downloading mainly.

Some users told me that the speed of download in Home 500 goes to around 150 - 200 KB per second but there is never even a speed of more than 65 KBps in even the 1350 UL plan.

I do not understand all of you. Speeds are clearly stated for each plan.

Yes. Speeds are less for UL plans (but it is clearly stated). Every ISP works with an internet pipe and the full bandwidth is shared in a contention ratio of 1:50, i.e., 50 users per pipe. In normal cicumstances, all users are guaranteed a minimum of 256 kbps. For plans that have a higher minimum guarantee, the contention ratio is lesser.

Each plan has been given a max speed limit. UL plans have been capped to lower speeds.

All this is because using such plans people would hog all the bandwidth.

If the above is what you are calling "capping" then yes, there is capping.

Till the time that internet infrastructure has paid for itself, costs recovered, such policies are bound to continue. This is true not only for BSNL but all ISPs in India. There is nothing you or anyone else can do about this. You are not being cheated as you are clearly told what is on offer.

But yes. We can crib that internet is costly in India.

i am a 750 UL user for the past 6 months and am satisfied... MY LAST MONTH USAGE WAS 60 GB.. at a variable speed from 20kB/S TO 100kB/S.. I THINK ITS THE BEST PLAN FOR BROWSERS N WHO ARE ALSO MASS DOWNLOADERS

You must be kidding my friend.....

For 750 UL plan, the max speed is 32 kB/sec (on a average)

    Default U/L users being capped

as I have said in my posts earlier , we are definately being capped , when i start a D/L I see a spurt of speed of 120+ KBps and then it steadily drops to between 25 to 30 KBps .. when I can and am getting a relatively hi D/l SPEED WHY SHOULD IT BE CURBED ????

You are getting unlimited data transfer at prize of Rs 750 = Home 750 ul 32 KB
Home 1000 48 to 256 KB = 5 GB data transfer only. BSNL have put a cap some where won't they ?
