Question Bypass BSNL modem with a Netgear AP

    Hi,

At the moment my telephone line is connected to the modem and then to Netgear Router cum AP (model WGR614v7). Can I bypass the modem and connect the telephone line to the WAN port on Netgear. If possible, what all precautions should I take while using the telephone line with RJ11 connector in the WAN port of netgear, which is a RJ45 port ?

    Rgds

Will not work. Netgear may get damaged,
as there is a DC ( 40V to 60V present)
in the telephone line, even after the adsl splitter.

Modem may have circuits to block this .
    RJ45 cable ( 8 wires out of which 4 used )
    carry only signal data.
Rj11 cable two wires for telephone port etc.

    It won't work.

First of all, you cannot connect. The ports are completely different (RJ11 vs RJ45).

Secondly, as essbebe said, your Netgear router will be damaged by the DC in the telephone line.

Thirdly, the Netgear WGR614v7 is a plain (wi-fi) router and does not have a built in ADSL2+ modem that is required to dial to the ISP and establish connection.
