It is not available from the website. The modem that is sold to BSNL by UTStarcom is an OEM model and exclusively manufactured for them. BSNL uses it own firmware for its suitability.

But why do you wish to update the firmware? Are you facing any issue? It is unadvisable to update firmware from unknown sources and for no reason at all.

    @hotty007
    Post present version details.
FW update if tried with unknown/unverified versions, can result in a "DUD" router/modem, or if the power fails during FW update.
UTStar/Huwaei do not encourage FW updates, and in their web site/s , also not available.
Usually FW UPGD done to get additional menu items like
    virtual servers/portforwarding/ddns etc.
    What is your problem ?

Actually the modem which i have is nearly 2-3 yrs old. I've been using it since i got broadband connection. This modem can handle dl speeds of upto 8 mbps, but in my modem the speeds are only 2mbps (see attachment). So I just thought maybe the firmware upgrade would increase the handling speeds to 8mbps.

Some of my friends in my area are nowadays getting much higher speeds than 2mbps. They are getting download speeds of nearly 300 KB/s or higher, but i get 200-210 (which is a normal speed of the 2mbps connection).

And that is why I asked about firmware update, to see whether i too can get those speeds.

Firmware upgrade is not going to result in higher speed. Only plan change may do that. I do not know how your friends are getting higher speeds.

Firmware upgrade may result in the following:

    a) Any bugs of previous software could be removed (but new bugs may be added)
    b) It may fix frequent disconnections problem, for example. It may become more resilient to the low SNR Margin.
    c) It may unlock few options that have been suppressed, e.g., virtual server

    Also your computer!
you can check what is the MOD selected in your modem.
Suggestion 1:If it is T413 or GDMT , this is a stable connection.
IF option to select ADSL2 or ADSL2+ are available select them and see. Line rate will show higher in modem status page.
Suggestion 2 :Also you can try OPenDNS 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222 instead of BSNL DNS. ( note them down )
Suggestion 3 : When you are downloading, see other programs/applications , appearing in TASKBAR , not needed are disabled.
    Suggestion 4: Download TCP/IP optimizer from speedguide.net
see the web sites suggestions adjust MTU/MSS/TTL etc.
As you can see all tweaks are mostly on the computer side !
No surety you will get dramtic speed increases!
Check speed before and after the tweaks at speedtest.net say Brisbane. server.

Thank you guys for ur advise.

@essbebe - my current mod is set at MMODE, and the other options available are T1413, GDMT, GLITE. There is no ADSL 2/2+.

And how can i change my modem's linerate to 8mbps, which now stands at 2mbps.

Not possible to get line speed of 8 Mbps with your modem.
Even if it is capable of that speed your connection cannot exceed 2 Mbps
    normally.

UTStarcom 300 R2 is actually a ADSL 2 / 2+ modem and it supports upstream of upto 8mbps and downstream of 2 mbps. But why is it that in my modem it is set at 2 mbps and not at 8 ???

01.Check under "ADVANCED' there is a menu item access control.
    02..Select ADSL2 +
03...Also in WAN page "Mod' may be set to auto.
04.....Then you have to keep ONLY ADSL2+ and Bitswap enabled and try.
05.......SIMILAR page from Beetel 220BX for reference :

I hav set my mod at GDMT, but i dont see any other option.

It would be helpful if u can post a complete setup guide for my modem, coz i couldn't find one here.

And also how to backup the current modem firmware, before upgrading.

Edit: The firmware is not available at the given RS link.

OK. You can try the other available settings. First one may improve line speed.
MMODE stands for Multi-Mode, and includes ADSL2 and 2+. it just takes a few more seconds for the modem to discover what mode it should be using.
    Para two:
I have never attempted any FW update/s
It is unlikely you can get better speed by trying an update.
Because you cannot save the previous FW version. ( rather I don't know )
TRY at your own Risk , if file still available.
The first one is for this modem probably.

The firmware is not available at the given links. Anyway lets leave it.

But my main concern is, how is that my modem's speed is limited to 2 mbps. Was it configured by BSNL personnel before being installed in my home.

Did you try the MOD settings ?
No point in going back to square 1.
Get a 8 Mbps connection. The modem will "train" to that speed in "MMode"

    Default UT300R2 Firmware Upgrade.

    @Nam_siddharth
    What is the problem ?
Did you access this thread and just posted your question /
Did you go through the previous 18 posts?

My MT882 Firmware is for June 2005!
Even though i can UPG I had not tried, because
if power fails, or the UPGFW is corrupt, you can not
get back the old FW, resulting in a "dead"
modem.( Rather I don't know how to get Previous FW)
