Unhappy LAN Card & Windows 98

    Dear friends,

I am planning to go for having BSNL Broadband Internet Connection. I am having a Desktop PC with DUAL Operating Systems - Windows 98 and Windows XP.

    FIRST QUESTION:

How can I know if my PC is having a LAN Card OR 10/100 Ethernet Port or not as it is the only requirement for having the connection.

    SECOND QUESTION:

Which modem should I go for? type 1 or type 2 or is there anything else also? and what is the difference between non-wifi(type1) and wifi(type2) modem? Please............. clarify it. If I select any of them, can I change it later i.e., from type 1 to type 2 and vice-versa????????? SHOULD I GO FOR HAVING IT ON RENT OR SHOULD I BUY IT???

    THIRD QUESTION:

I may go for buying a laptop just after 3-4 months, in that case which modem should I choose so that I can also use it as a WIRELESS INTERNET WITH MY LAPTOP later?

    FOURTH QUESTION:

DO I NEED TO DO ANY SPECIAL SETTINGS FOR ESTABLISHING THE CONNECTION ON WINDOWS 98???? I HAVE HEARD THAT THE SPEED IS SLOWER IN WINDOWS 98 COMPARED TO WINDOWS XP - is this true????????

    FIFTH QUESTION:

    WHAT IS THE SPEED IN HOME PLANS 250, 500, 500 C AND 500 C + ???????????????

Please try to clear all the above confusions by sharing your knowledge with a novice like me. HOPE TO GET A REPLY SOON. thanks.
