Default Phone Line in busy Error 676

Of late while connecting through my SL2_141 I am getting the message 'Phone line is busy - Error 676'. This error is not even listed in the list available in the Broadband CD software available at the Calcutta BSNL site for download.

I tried to contact 1800 424 1600, they referred me to 1957 which is now IVR and as usual there was no response. Finally I talked with the local person in BSNL who said to go to admin page of the modem on the browser and restore factory settings. This has helped a little in the sense that I am able to connect but the error is still there.

Please could somebody help me so that I am able to connect as before.

Since you are getting connected now, you are entering ID and PW
    correctly in WanminportDialer.
Check your phones are connected after the ADSL splitter.
Use Extra ADSL splitter for other phone extensions.
You can uncheck "Bridged" in WAN page of router and try PPP/PPPoE "always" on connection. Enter user Id without @ bsnl.in.
Other settings can remain. Save and reboot. Wait for 2 or three minutes.
    Para two:
    1/Post IPconfig/all info
Start/ RUn type cmd type ipconfig/all
    2. From Statistics/ ADSL post details of
    SNR/ATTN/Line speed and mod selected.
REF: Select your modem and check settings if in doubt.

I'd the same error in my connection. I was pretty frustrated, then I thought lets put in some web address on the IE & see. What I found out that the internet was connected. Then I realised that I'd set up my modem for always on. Before this, I'd reset the modem SL2_141 & configured according to the guide of calcutta phones website. After the configuration, my broadband is always on (as soon i power on the modem) so I dont need to dial up. But because I was dialing up on an already connected modem, I was getting the line busy error #676

    Hope this helps.

Are you using Bridged mode or PPPOE mode?

You get error 676 only when:

    (1) Your exchange uses PPPOE and you have configured your modem in bridged mode.

    (2) Your exchange uses Bridged mode and you have configured your modem in PPPOE mode.

In my case, the exchange uses Bridged mode only. I tried configuring modem in PPPOE mode and ended up with Error 676.

Thanks I changed my modem to 'Bridged' mode from PPPOE over ethernet and it started working like before. Even another friend was having the same problem and this helped.

Yes, changing it to bridged mode helped as this was suggested to me by the local BSNL engineer ( I was lucky to find one ) as I know the line man very nicely. But, I still have a question how it worked before with the other settings....!
