Rep Power: 2 | Communication speed is specified in bits while data download speed is measured in bytes. i.e. 8 bits = 1 byte So for a UL750 connection: 256 kbps (kilobits) = 32 kBps (kilobytes) You are getting the maximum possible speed for your connection plan. |

| Platinum Member | There are lot of tussles going on between the MPAA and P2P networks. MPAA and movies studios are crying foul over P2P and claiming it as piracy. They say that P2P sites are robbing the studios, artists and others out of their rightful revenue when people upload and share copyrighted contents on P2P sites. The advocates of P2P claim that only the studios (and sometimes top artists) are denied the share of revenue. The lower artists, support crew, staff, etc. whom the studios are championing never get the share of the revenue anyway. In my personal opinion, the studios keep the DVDs (and BDs) exorbitantly priced and that is leading to piracy to a large extent. The manufacturing and distribution cost of a DVD is no more that $2 ($4~$5 for BD) and yet the price of a new DVD is $20, $24 for special 2 disk edition and $30 for Blu-Ray. If the price is cut by 75%, the studios will see a quantum jump in sales offseting the loss of revenue by lower price and still earn huge profits. Piracy will come down drastically (if not totally eliminated). The Chinese are pioneers in the 1st day copies. They have a big network. The master copy is created from diagital telecine converters (not camera prints). The copy is transmitted to the Chinese factories where DVDs are pressed in huge quanitities. The DVDs are as good as original (maybe minus the chapters and extra content). A lot of it finds its way on P2P networks and online movie sites. There is very little the studios and law agencies can do about it.

| Platinum Member | ......... also when those 20-24$ dvds reach india, its market price becomes unreasonable. Nobody likes to use counterfeit products.almost everybody would buy original copyrighted dvds if their price is kept within reason. How many original dvds can a middle-class person buy per month. 3/4 max. desire to watch a good film is almost as intense as carnal desires |

Cause Indian Companies buy the distribution rights from the Studios directly and start selling it for reasonable price ... But it takes atleast 2-4 weeks to come out in this form ..... so if you have patience you can get it ...

| Platinum Member | that is exactly what i do. but indian distributor only release a handful of films which they r sure would be hits. All the others, specially old ones come from different source. and therein lies the problem. |

| Platinum Member | In the west, the DVDs are priced $20-24 when new and the price starts dropping after 3/4 months. After a year, the price is almost half. This does not happen in India. But Moser Baer has brought the price revolution that I talked about (check my link in signature). If MB can do it, I am sure Hollywood studios can do it also. If DVDs were sold at $5, I may have to dedicate a room for storage (check my collection). |

| Platinum Member | very good collection. i have about 99% of those films in the list in my coll. (excluding hindi films and tv-series). recently acquired the x-files complete. u have two films which i have been searching like a raving maniac. one being gene wilder's the woman in red and the 2nd is the jeeves tv-series. anyway, i will create my list someday and upload it. once again, pretty good coll u got there. |

| Platinum Member | The reason that my collection so limited is because: a) I prefer originals (DVDs) b) I am not travelling so often these days; I find the Indian DVDs slightly off quality. c) I would like to own those which I would like to watch often d) I am now thinking in terms of BD but these are quite expensive as of now. |

| Platinum Member | who said ur collection is limited........ u have some gems which even i dnt have. its the quality of collection that counts and bro, u have very good taste. oh, and another thing, i probably didnt see "fierce creatures" in ur list. had a thought that u might want to add it in ur collection. it boasts of the same cast from A FISH CALLED WANDA, and is a great comedy. kevin kline gives another gr8 performance. though this didnt bring him another oscar like the previous one. |

The reason, I say my collection is limited because I have seen people with over 1000 (original) titles. I don't know what they do - buy every DVD?

| Platinum Member | @just4kix i have way more than 5k movies in my coll but i m somewhat ashamed to admit that about 65% of these r not original copies. what else can i do ??? i practically eat and drink movies so i cant just wait till i get a job. when i will be independent, i will buy the whole cary grant/rock hudson and peter sellers coll with my first sallary. |

| Platinum Member | LOL. And where do you store your 5K collection? If 35% are originals, that makes it 175 or so. Not bad. I, too, have some torrent downloads (a total around 20 titles) which I intend to buy soon: - The Bourne Ultimatum - Iron Man - Knight Rider - Star Trek - The Next Generation (still downloading) - David Attenborough's The Living Planet (I am reserving this as a BluRay collection) - A few animation films like Madagascar, Monster Inc., etc. My aim is not to have any bootlegs ultimately. |

| Platinum Member | thats how i think too; i mean, how would i feel if i were a director and found out all my major hits were being downloaded and seen at home.terrible. anyway, since my majority r from torrent, 1 dvd holds 6 films(700mb)(generally). and i have over thousand such dvds. i keep the originals in 1 rupee plastic cd holders and then keep em safely. cause i have seen the original cd/dvd cases do more damage due to friction. my favourite, "dog day afternoon" original cds were ruined that way.
