Default Not able to access Mcafee.com through my BSNL connection

Hello, I recently got connected with BSNL broadband. Everything seems to work fine though with two problems,

    1. Everytime i enter the URL of any site, it shows a page not found error. When I refresh the same URL again then the site loads. Any clues on why this happens?

    2. All antivirus sites except McAfee.com seem to open. I have a McAfee Internet Security Suite and I cant seem to connect to mcafee.com to get the updates. Any clues on how I can enable this?

    Thanks!

    TRY in TCP/IP properties
    Enter opendns 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222.
Or you may have to check MTU value 1492 or lower.
    2. If you have Mcafee as resident program, open menu and click check updates.
    3. Disable it and try to access macfee site.
    us.mcafee.com/root/upgradecenter.asp
4.You have not confirmed if it is a free trial version or paid version with subscription valid.

    5. Start run type cmd type ping us.mcafee.com
or type tracert us.mcafee.com give the results here.

    us.mcafee.com/root/upgradecenter.asp opening OK.

Hi, I have a paid subscription with McAfee. Enabled OpenDNS on my modem (or should I do it in TCPIP properties in Windows?) Tried disabling updates on the mcafee-resident computer and it still doesnt work. I cant even access this site from my laptop connected through the Wifi.

MTU value on my router is 1464. Here is the ping and tracert data,

    TRY in TCP/IP properties also.
    Enter opendns 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222.

MTU value on my router is 1464
Change this value to 1492 or 1480 and try.

If you are able to connect to other sites then I don't think there is any problem with n/w configuration.
Further, if you are getting message like 'Waiting for...', it means you are quite able to connect to site but site is having problem to download data. Better try after sometime.

    Problem Post 1.
I cant seem to connect to mcafee.com to get the updates. Any clues on how I can enable this?
Is there a possibility of a virus ?

Can you try some on line virus scan, after disabling McAfee?

    Disable Windows Firewall.

    http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocumen... tray too long

    Description
During an application update, the McAfee update icon is displayed in the System Tray. If the icon does not disappear after a few minutes, the update may have stopped responding.

If you attempt to restart the computer the warning below is displayed:

McAfee updates are being installed in the background. Please do not shut down or restart your computer until the installation is finished. You will be notified when the installation is finished.
    Solution
Manually Stop the update and restart the computer

    1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open the Windows Task Manager.
    2. Click Task Manager.
    3. Click the Processes tab, then right-click mcupdui.exe and select End Process.
    4. Click Yes in the warning dialog box.
    5. Close Task Manager.
    6. Restart your computer.

The update session will restart after your computer restarts. The animated update icon will appear in the system tray while the updates install.
If the update icon does not appear in the System Tray, manually restart the update:

    1. Right-click the icon in the System Tray and select Updates.
    2. Ensure the icon disappears when then installation is complete

Tried this but still doesnt work. I even reset all my router and modem to its factory settings and reconfigured them but it still doesnt work. Tried with just the modem to no avail. I've lodged a complaint with BSNL. lets see what happens now...

I could access symantec.com and norton antivirus sites. i even did a scan with another anti-virus suite and it didnt find anything. looks like i've to switch to Norton now

I cant believe there was such a simple solution for this. I did some digging on the net for this and found out that tweaking with the MTU value could help. So i changed the MTU value on my router to 1452 and IT WORKS!!!

Now all the sites which were earlier blocked are accessible!!!!
