Default which modem to buy for bsnl BB

hello guys, i am going to apply for bsnl BB service and i am little confused if i buy the modem from bsnl or from local market.

before few months back bsnl provided siemens SL2 141 (type4) modem which has 4 ethernet port + 1 wifi against 1800/-. but now they are saying they dont have type 4 modem, instead they will give only type2 modem which has only 1 ethernet port + 1 wifi against same 1800 money. and they will also charge 250 for installation. so i have to pay 2000/- for type2 modem.

so my question is that, in local market, is there any good same type third party modem available within 2500/- which has ethernet port + wifi + usb.

plz advice as i am very confused about it.
    thx in advance.

How many computers you have ? laptops? desktops ?
Where all in your house you want to access Internet ?
Go for rental option and decide later.
If you have registered now,20% BB rental discount for 6 months,
and probably no installation charges. till 31st Oct 2008. for
all NEW connections from date of activation. Check with CC.

At present only type-i modem is available on rent. If you are using laptop or have idea of buying a laptop in future go for type-iv modem.type -ii modem is sold as type-iv by bsnl only 1 ethernet port

what should i do? i have a dell studio 1535 laptop with 802.11n card installed.

    1) what standard of wifi bsnl type ii modem uses ?
    2) will 802.11n also support a/b/g standards ?
    3) if i buy wifi modem from bsnl, will i be able to connect to that wifi modem from my laptop using wifi.
    4) i am going to apply for b-fone as well for which i have to choose home500c plan. will i be able to change that plan to home500 or anyother in future ?

plz reply soon, as i am going to apply for it next week.
thx for all ur effort to this site.

802.11n is a wireless networking protocol that uses MIMO technology to offer better range and speed than traditional 802.11a/b/g networks. so, u will be able to connect ur wifi modem to ur laptop.
it definitely supports the a/b/g standards.
u have pretty fine laptop and i dont see why should there be any prob with bsnl bb.
another thing though, i suggest u to take the bsnl home500c+ plan.
it gives 2.5GB daytime usage/night unlimited/no monthly phone rental/and a number of free phone calls.
the price for this is 600 monthly.i think it is pretty much cost effective.
-------thanx and have a good day.

thx leopold for ur quick and informative reply. and in home500c free calls 175 whereas in home500c+ freecalls available is 50. i think i will go for 500c.
but what i am really concerned about is that if i can switch to another plan in future, for example to home750 or home500 etc..

    plz suggest

Best to stick to BSNL provided modem/router - because in case of issues you can go back to them for resolution.

And I suggest a BSNL Type IV modem.
