Thread: Internet freezes often !

I am using BSNL 750 Un Limited plan. Using UT300R2u Modem. While downloadin in utorrent or browsing , internet freezes , that is no bytes is recieved.. only bytes are sent.. downloads speed drops to 0 kbps.. then in 20-30 secs it resumes.. this freezing happens often, once in 20 mins atleast, what can be done? i tried with usb as well as ethernet, still no use.. plz some one suggest me a solution!

Freezes means I assume that you are not able to surf during that period. Is the ASDL link (in the modem) blinking during that period. If not,then check for your telephone & see if there are any noise disturbance. Give the SNR & attenuation values.

Do you get any error msg from windows?
I would suggest that you get some good anti virus at place and get your entire system scanned.
Because if your connection is going on then i guess its a problem with your computer. Also if you have any other comp at your place then try connecting on that machine and check the results.

my ethernet light alone blinks contiously.. adsl that is "internet" light is stable.. tat is.. it is on..but it does not blinks.. then after 30 secs.. it blinks... along with ethernet light. same problem in usb also. i get this problemn very often now.. every 15mins or so... yahoo messenger gets signed out automatically, website.. jus shows..loading. while chatting.. i get messages as a bulk..continously...

i formatted ma pc also..., i hav avast antivirus home edition installed, but still no use..
and i dont know what is SNR and those values...

it may be due to disconnection problem as it is possible that your line is loosing sync, apart from that have you tried to reset your router and then tried to reconfig again.

i did reseting also my router also. i reconfigured it.. but no use... my modem is ut 300r2u v2.2 ! u want me to paste the printscreen of it?

Better make a complain to your local telephone exchange. it may be due to noise in your telephone line.

yes you can update screenshot and do check this with your ISP too

i have a clear telephone line also.. i complained to them last week. they said. they change all wirings.. and ports etc. i dont face any distrubance in telehone line. but i hav this same problem in last 2 modems also...

1Same way for screen shot :Check under Statistics ADSL.

Give Mode selected , SNR ATTN details.
Or post the full page. ( meter will not appear as shown in example )

hi, i too have this problem u r mentioning. i hav home 500 plan and hav a dsl router(ethernet)DNAA211-1. I dont hav ne problem during my day time surfing . but as soon as i start surfing or downloadin at night connection jus freezes and webpages stops loading , torrent download speed goes to nil and other ftp gives error. this thing jus sucks cause then in orderto regain to connection i hav to manually reboot my dsl router. ne body hav ne idea

1.Your SNR/ATTN figures are satisfacory,
but more SNR say above 20 db would be better.

2....If you could select only GDMT in DSL page ( bitswap enabled )
there could be some improvement in SNR.
3......Anyway I think BSNL line may not be the cause for your BB connection ""freezing"" problem.
4. ......Presume you are using IE6 or IE7.
Download & try FireFox Browser. go to filehippo.com.
5.......... Also download and run Ccleaner from same web site.
6............. You could also d/l a download Manager. say Free Download Manager.
7. Also an Anti virus program .
8. Reply about No.of applications on start up, or appearing in Taskbar.

the browser is not the problem. the bytes sent recieved in lan connection.. only byest get sent.. nothin is recieved..for few secs. then resumes.. i use avast. avast is only the start up prog. and i tot it wud be virus problem.. so i formatted ma pc.. many times.. actually i hav this problem for 3 monmths..
i changed a new modem.. then it was good for a week.. then the same problem started.. i called up bsnl.. they said they change ports,lines,etc.. again 2-3 days it was good.. now the condition is worse.. since today is a holiday nothing can be done.. but how cum i face same probelm in last 3 modems.. includin the one i am using one..
while playing multiplayer games , kike counterstrike, age of empires.. the games stucks for 30 secs.. then resumes... feel highly irritated...

I formatted my pc now ! as for now.. no problem for about past 1/2 hour.. so any virus was blockin my connection? I use Avast Antivirus Home Edition. Is there any other measure. to prevent anything like viruses?? any specific software?

well i rang to the bsnl ppl and now there is no problem since two nights hopin its been sortd i ll update my status after 2 days . well u can try anti spywares to block spywares and use firewalls.

now.. my connection gets dissconnected... !! so the problem is with my router?? my snr went near to 4.1 now... gettin dc often...!! wat am i to do?
any fault in modem also causes this problem??

SNR and SNR Margin are slightly different. Please read here: SNR Margin and Line Attenuation - What do they mean?

There is problem with your line and the port at the exchange. I had similar issues last month. You need to take this up and persist with BSNL. With me also they said initially that there are no issues but later on they changes the cable and port. My SNR Margin jumped from around 6 to 28~32. Attentuation dropped from 35+ db to 20+ db.

i had a similar problem, it got rectified by itself within a few days.. ensure that your telephones are connected after splitter..

Is there any chance? I checke with many friends.. they all have Snr Value aroun 30+ and i had aroun 8 only.. now it is around 14.5 I dont knw wat to do! i called up the bsnl guy.. he changed new cable connectin my modem and that telephone line box.. outside.. still no change in Snr Value.

So wanted to know if any problem in modem leads to low snr margin?! I will ask tat bsnl guy to replace my modem if so!

i had a similar issue of fluctuating SNR long back. it had nothing to do with my setup.. it was something on their end.i didnt complain as i felt it would get alright by itself within a few days.. and it did..

My Snr Margin is now 14.7 downstream and 11.0 in upstream.
Attenuation Value is 14.0 downstream and 3.0 in upstream.

Are the values good enough? I wan to know.. is there any chance of defect in modem may cause this problem? I get my connection freezed for few secs..( around 25-30 secs) for every 20 mins.

Bsnl Guy changed some MRF or sumthing but some thing starting with "M.."
in tlephone exchange.. first the Snr was 6.9 now its aroun 14..

Any suggestions plz...

and one more thing.. i get HEC errors.. and Superframe errors.. !! Anything to do with tat?
