hi evryone
i hve problem regarding the speed. i hve combo 500plan and i use rapidshare in the night and usually download abt 4.5gb to 5gb in the night 2am to 8am with the help of IDM
but in this month my net speed goes so down only in night that i dwnload only 200mb to 500mb every night even 50 or 60 links in the scheduler
there is special thing that my speed goes down only in the night not browsing speed but only download speed

so wht should i do
i think there is problem due to change in the setting of XP but i cant figure it out

u didnt say if u did any major win-setting change recently.i m assuming u didnt.
BOSS, download and use webroot spysweeper to clean any possible spyware infection.
now, get rid of all unnecessary startup items and install a good firewall. monitor if any unnecesary soft is eating the bandwidth.
these r all usual suggestions which only help in limited cases.
the most common cause for ur trouble is probably a bad port. in that case ur speed will decrease and ultimately net will stop working. if the troubles continue, go to ur local bsnl head office and find incharge of bb and complain about low bandwidth. only he can help now by giving u a new port.u r paying for it so u should get full bandwidth.

same thing happened to me and i these steps in that order.now my net works fine.

brother my computer does not have any spyware and i checked regularly with kaspersky antivirus and i did not chnge any window setting
now yesterday night i xchange my modem with cousin
but problem does not solve

i am facing similiar problem ,dont do sytem restore or os re install

the fault is with the bsnl,some port issue or your network server is busy with other night unlimted users

bsnl has got the 50:1 sharing ratio , so the network is congested,but u get 2mb speed during day time

complaint to the area manager or the divisional engineer,and the technician will say line is perfect coz he doesnt know sh*t abt broadband,so make them check properly

in my case they listened and also changed my port the very same day.

PROBLEM:

1.You should test download speed at
speedtest.net during the free NU time.

Probably you are using scheduler/IDM to download,
and there could be disconnection/reconnection
often and resume by IDM./torrents.

2 Test tomorrow at about 0730AM and at 0830AM
at speedtest.net
Mumbai server/Brisbane/London.

Usually Microsoft site/s is the most reliable
and fastest site. to check D/L speed.

3Try TCP/IP optimizer from speedguide.net
and see their recommendations.

4. Since you feel day surfing is normal,
try open DNS 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222
assuming BSNL DNS changes at night.

open dns doest do much ,so there is no dns issue here

i am using idm too,the speeds r slow during 2am to 8m ,and i get full speeds from microsoft and divx website

daytime- full speed all servers r 2mb speed
night unlimited - almost 99% servers r slow ,youtube load so slowly i felt like throwing my monitor

speednest takes ages to load samething with 2wire during night unlimited

speed optimizer didnt help much ,changed mtu 1480 ,1452 ,nothing

i feel fishy here,lots of people especially from bangalore r having slow speeds during 2 am to 8 am and there is telephone line prblm

bsnl is choking the servers ,thats all,i already complained let see wether these idiots clear it up

i have noticed one another thing last night that as i download frm rs as premium user with the help of idm and idm break i file into 8 parts but the speed
of all parts does not decrease only 4-5 parts speed decreases
the other part speed remain constant so overall
my speed fluctuating b/w 30-240kbps
it increases one moment to 240 and then come down to 30 in next..
the last the total download is 500mb which is too low fo rs premium users



so i have question is there any option in xp the packet size transfer ???

changing the packet size from default 512b may increase performance while downloadin/uploadin larger files. u will get all the tips from the following site.

u may also download tcpoptimizer frm same site to do those jobs for u automatically.
while it has helped many people, others like me have never experienced any significant change. best of luck

I have the same problem of low speed during night unlimited(day time speed is ok) I did complaint to DE but he said that he can not do anything about speed suggest me where i can make my complaint. my connection is Calcutta telephones area

i called in bsnl ofice yesterday and they give me setting
after apply those my net speed goes down more
as idm divides the file into 8 parts before now in 2 parts only

so speed goes to 20 kbps only......

just contact u r ISP to confirm wheather they have capped u r speed during power hours

1. here i put the screnenshots of my ipconfig/all and other details he give to me
but the setting change automatically in the tcp/ip protocol after I reconnect it so i post in first screen shot

2. my modem is that provided by bsnl
i.e is UT-300R2U

3. i donot know which device status so give me details so i provided to u

4 post in the scrren shot

hey vikrant,if u connect ur internet using the ppoe mode thats is windows dial up mode ,then go to properties of your dial up and then to networking tab and then click on tcp/ip and then properties ,there u chose the option use these following dns servers ,try these dns servers
218.248.240.79
218.248.240.135

if u connect and type ipconfig/all ,then u can see the change of dns servers under the ppp interface


if no change in speeds ,then go the same dial up properties,in the tcp/ip properties choose obtain dns servers automatically


can i know which place you are from and is there any increase in speed during night unlimited

i am getting 2mb speed during day time and 500kbps during night unlimited

bsnl is having problem with night unlimited users as they r too many people using this feature including me for past 2 years ,so either they r capping the speed or they dont have enuf servers to provide 2mb speeds during night unlimited

the bsnl server in punjab is down so this problem occurs

My Broadband Speed also normal(1.8mbps-2 mbps in night) last 4-5 days
