    Default bsnl "introduces" weird problem

i went to see my bsnl usage from portal a few hours back. there i saw a banner saying that bsnl has introduced a new idea. they will redirect any browsing attemp to a portal page after a user has downloaded 1gB data. naturally i downloaded 1gB within 2.00am to 3.30 am and then i couldnt open any web page. however utorrent was working fine. only any browsing attempt was redirected to a bsnl portal where they asks to input username and password.
even after i have successfully logged in there, any url (like gmail.com) i input in firefox or ie got redirected to the same portal page. it was like hell.
i restarted my modem and pc and installed webroot spysweeper and did clean some cookie traces and then logged in internet. everything was fine now.

did anybody out there experience anything like this tonight ???
    if so, please reply......
    this is insane.

ohhh god this is really bad and if it is like that thn what's the use of Nite Unlimited, you are smart enough to look for some resolutions but what about the other users who really like to download a lot but don't have proper knowledge of internet and system. This is another way to control or reduce Nite Unlimited usage

exactly, the only reason i took bsnl bb is because i wanted to download using torrent.
u have no idea how shocked i m after seeing that. my last post was 25 minutes ago.utorrent has already downloaded 700mB and uploaded 160mB in the mean time.i m so afraid that i havent closed firefox since then. what if it happens again???????

    !!!!!oh dear!!!!!

i cant even imagine what will happen.........

go to this portal and u will see the deadly crawling banner.

Quote: "Alerting system has been introduced for the Multiplay Broadband users on reaching usage of 1GB (Including night usage). The users are requested to keep their User ID and password ready in hand which is required for further browsing after redirection"

What does Multiplay Broadband mean exactly though? Does it also include Home Unlimited users?

I wonder if BSNL are doing this redirection through their DNS servers and if so will it work on OpenDNS users.

definitely this is not going to affect unlimited plans users. I have home500c plan subscribed and the trouble happened to me, so i am assuming that this is targeting *500*
plan users. bcause we download the most.
one hour has passed since my first post and utorrent has downloaded 1.35GB in the meantime. but the problem has not ocurred again.

lastly, i dont use bsnl dedicated dns. but still it happened to me.
i really dont know what is going on.

I wonder what BSNL is thinking, other than creating more nuisance for its customers.

If they are only redirecting HTTP traffic (web sites), it won't affect Bittorrent and other P2P software which are the really heavy traffic users.

Cool It's has started from 1st Nov 2008

I think it is not going to effect the P2P traffic how ever, but for HTTP and FTP downloads i think it's gonna create problems.

They just want to stop people who are "so called miss using" night unlimited plan with help of P2P....

    Solution : ----

As i have noticed at first day.... restarting modem and getting new IP is solving the problem of redirection to bsnl site....

i have noticed that they have kept it IP based alert system . so IP changed alert gone.. happy downloading....

I read in the newspapers few months (3~5) back that BSNL is going to introduce some method to notify the limited users that they have crossed the download limit, something like a pop up message.

    Default Same to me

Hi I think this is just a nagging security banner,
I checked for my usage it is fine . Now even they are forcing you to lo in once again after you are connected to internet.
well i think everything is fine as long the speed is good and bills are correct

this is definitely not just a banner cause it happened to me pretty real.:hang:
and it doesnt serve any purpose because only home250 plan owners have a
limit of 1GB per month. i have 1.5 GB per month (excluding nt unlimited), so its simply unfair to alert me at reaching 1GB.and the alert system didnt work either.
it jsut kept on redirecting me to the same idiotic page.

secondly, i dont understand the portal page either. what kind of web page was that????:confused1:the address was confusing too.

lastly, i didnt change my local ip address.i just rebooted the pc, modem and did a spyware scan with webrootSS (cause i didnt trust the strange web portal page), and the prob went away.(???????)
i know that this wont affect the torrent dlod speed. but what if 2 of my torrents finishes downloading and i need to open isohunt to get a new torrent. what if i just want to see if there is a newer wallpaper of katrina kaif on the web..

I DONT WANT 2 BE STUCK FOREVER IN THAT INFERNAL WEB-PAGE.
....neway, thanx for sharing thoughts pals.

    oh, and i use pppoe.

    hi ppl,

i also had the same problem , right early today morning, and i called up the bsnl hotline. I was told that it was a "OS re installation" goin on in my area and it should be cleared up in 2 hrs or so.

Gee while i'm sure thats not the real prolem, the connection did become alright in 2hrs as mentioned ...

Maybe u could call up bsnl and have a word or the only other seems to be to wait.

Last month I downloaded 23883 mb total. chargeable being 2533. I never experienced anything like the above. Even though the banner about multiplay customers and 1 gb limit has been there a number of days. I though it never applied to me because I understand multiplay customer means iptv. Can somebody explain what is multiplay broadband means? Is it applicable to us/

    thats right.
anyway, it only happened to me last nt, hasnt happened since.
so i think that this prob will occur only once a month after u have reached 1GB dlod lim.
thats not so bad. What is bothering me is that the prob occurred last nt at about 4.30am.
and my usage portal has stopped updating since then. see the attached pic.
anybody with similar prob please report here immediately.

THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE because u cant trust bsnl. THEY can easily charge me for my night time downloads. I m a little scared too.

@evander: Try this portal : BSNL - Broadband Account Management ,see if your usage details are showing up there.
