Exclamation Cannot view modem settings through browser

    Hello Friends,
I am new to this forum. I have a BSNL broadband modem C2110. Though my internet connection works fine i cannot access my modem page 192.168.1.1 through my browser...

My Lan card is configured as follows:

    IP addr: 192.168.0.1
    Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Preferred DNS: 192.168.0.1 (I wanted local caching of DNS)

your setting are not correct and apart from that you are trying to open incorrect address on browser, please check your ip address again coz as you said your IP address and gateway address both are 192.168.0.1 which is not possible.

Please go to command prompt and type ipconfig/all and then post the details here

Your modem can be accessed at http://192.168.0.1.

But before that, you should change your LAN IP address to:

    IP Address: 192.168.0.10 or something.
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.0.1

    Default Solved....

    Thanks folks for your suggestions.....
It got resolved by setting things this way:

    IP addr: 192.168.1.10
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS: 208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

Now the modem settings are available at 192.168.1.1 as usual....

That is why DHCP service must be ON in the router and TCP/IP settings on PC must be set to automatic.

You will never face such problems then. I fail to understand why people (especially those from Customer Care) insist on setting a manual IP address to the PC. I once had a good argument with the BSNL CC guy. He was asking to set a manual address and I refused to oblige.

Yes actually, the guy who installed my airtel also put in the local ip manually... when i looked up the modem config page there dhcp was available, so i just put it to automatic then in my comp and dnt have to worry bout that anymore.

The service guys are pretty robotic I guess. They must be getting a standard course on how to set up.

ya u r probably right... i just dont get it, why do the extra work when it can be done automatically? and its cooler too ... after all its a router not a simple modem, let it do its job.
like now the guy is recommending i update the firmware, good thing i changed the default password on the router or he'd have done it without my consent when he came whn i wasnt home. but i say why update it when its working just fine at the moment?
